So my dad's in the icu with brain cancer and we had a particularly bad day with his attitude and bladder. Is it cool to tip the nurse since she had to clean all day and deal with threats of poison. I figured the least I could do is give her 100 and buy her dinner, right?

I mean.... its literally part of her job...

I've never heard of tipping doctors and nurses, a nice thank you card yes or some homemade cookies but not that. You pay a lot as it is

Tipping culture is out of control as it is. Let's not bring the medical field under the umbrella.

My bet is that they aren't allowed to accept tips. Otherwise, those that tip better would get better healthcare. Buy them some flowers.

I have known people to get a thank you card and a gift card go a nice dinner for a nurse that's was especially compassionate for a patient. Nothing wrong with that, IMO. I wouldn't do cash though v

Hospitals often have restrictions on cash or gifts being accepted.

Best thing to do is write a complimentary letter to her supervisor and maybe see if you can send a tray of cookies or something to the ward.

This. I have a relative that's been in NICU for over 30 years.

A well timed cookie platter will make that units week.

We already have a snack bucket full of goodies for everyone to raid. Two of these people have gone above and beyond, and this shite sucks. I can't imagine doing this for a living.

My parents would always send flowers to the nursing staff if they received exemplary treatment. This happened more times than not.

Maybe a $30 gift card so they can go to lunch somewhere?

Def not needed, but if you are a kind and giving person, maybe get her a gift card.

And watch the normal OT baws melt that you even asked about this.

My hospital prohibits us from accepting gifts over a certain amount, and never cash.
