Tipping experiment

When this pandemic started, I started giving tips to those people that I was glad they were working. There were some that snatched that $ out of my hand with a quickness.
So I started to overpay, $3-$5 and see what the reaction was. I'm going to give it to them anyways.
Top of the list. Chick-Fil-A. 3x.
"I'm sorry sir, I can't accept gratuities".
Publix. "We don't accept tips, but you can contribute to the local school in your area".
Middle of the list.
McDonalds. Most tried to give me my money back or told me to put it in the Ronald McDonald house bin.
Wendys. There is a local employee that greets every early customer with a "How can I make your Monday etc, the best day of your week!"? She refused for a while, until I insisted.
Bottom of the list.
Kroger

So, kinda related to this:
had an ac company come out today, 1 hours work, nothing major.
Got invoice electronically an hour I paid and it asked if Id like to leave a tip.

I'm confused. I never said no. They kept the money.
In a lot of instances they said nothing, hence the ethical aspect.

Try this. Overpay at the drive-thru $2-3. Most will say that you gave me too much money, I tell them that that's a tip.
The problem is when they say nothing.
The problem is when they say nothing.
