I waited tables and tended bar for a long time. You always always always bring change, even if it's a penny, unless they say otherwise.

South America was interesting. They added a "voluntary" tip of 10% (and the food was extremely cheap). I usually just hand over my card, without looking at the receipt, but they would bring the bill, to which you could then decline paying the 10%, keep it or add more. It was convenient to just accept the bill, and if you wanted to add more, throw some cash on the table. In reality, not so different from the US, but there was never a "tip" line. And there was gratitude for anything extra left. Oh, and the service was top notch.

A good server knows to bring change, in small bills, because to assume that someone wants $20 back in two tens, hoping that they will leave the $10 makes the server look presumptuous.

Should have asked how much for a bj. When she gives a shocked reply you could have said, I'm sorry I thought you were a whore since you fricked me and left with my money.

30 years doing the same. New hire idiots do shite like this because they suck at the job and are probably too in the weeds to hit the table again.

I’ve noticed a lot of service workers being extra talkative and friendly lately. It feels so contrived. Basic human conversation on their part somehow requires I pay them extra, they expect.

I don't think this is a good example of tipping entitlement. I'd say it's more of an example of the quality of a waitress. Unless you are fine dining, don't expect wait staff to be the smartest bunch anymore.

I picked up an order at a bakery the other day. There was a tip option. I clicked no and went on about my day. Happy to tip 20%, sometimes more, for sit down service. Nothing else.

In some Southeast Asia countriest, they look at you weird for tipping after eating. In some instances, they would take offense or give back the tip.

I weekly gets eyes rolled at a 7-8 dollar tip on a 50 dollar bill. If you don't leave 20 bucks on a 100 dollar bill you are likely to be called out. This happens at high end restaurants all the way down to the Chili's of the World.

It's a recent occurrence...last 3-4 years.

Yikes at only tipping 7-8 dollars on a $50 tab. Hopefully you don't frequent the same restaurants constantly or you've definitely unknowingly tried some bodily fluids

I’ve never had that happen.

You got a waitress who sized you up and thought you wouldn’t say anything. I guarantee this isn’t the first time she’s pulled that stunt.

Rented a big standing wet table saw from Home Depot to cut some concrete blocks. I didn’t feel like hauling it home so they let me set it up in the parking lot, the old baw changed the blade a couple times for me, then helped me the whole time including cleaning up when done. I gave him a $20 when done and he politely refused and said it gave him something to do.

Stopped at Starbucks in the way home to get the wife a coffee. Tatted up, colored hair bro looked at me weird when I scratched out the tip line. I guess he wanted something for handing me a cup, through a window.

See my above post……the people that think a 17-18% tip is unacceptable are feeding into the entitlement of the industry.

ETA Now let’s talk about service…..it’s the worst it’s ever been in restaurants of all levels and they still expect the highest tips ever. It’s bullshite.
