Middle class welfare ,, durrrrr

I get some of my tax money back, durrrrrr

How about being responsible and create an education savings account for your children like I did?

Would you let your kids use TOPS?

I mean, it's better to get some of your tax money back instead of it being spent on people who didn't pay taxes.

I don't see why anyone would mock logical, rational thinking

The problem with your post is you assume no TOPS = less taxes. Taxes would stay the same and TOPS would move to education money for low income due to the backlash of removing poor people's access to education by getting rid of TOPS

I agree 100%

but that isn't our current reality, so it seems like a pretty dumb point to argue right now, no?

Congrats. You can use that money to pay the approximately $14k LSU is going to cost you per year factoring in fees, room, and board.

The age old justification for subsidies. I've heard farmers say the same.

It's still merit based, though. It's not a program designed for low income only, which is the point.

Just because it’s “merit based” doesn’t mean it isn’t welfare.

How do you raise the standards for TOPS when people cry racism when you do? It's an unfix-able problem with Louisiana culture

Tell the people who cry racism to grow the frick up and raise the requirements. It isn’t an unfixable problem.

If you remove TOPS completely, the money would just go to "poor people with a pulse" instead of "LA residents with a pulse". How does that help anything?

Remove welfare entirely and the money won’t go to anyone.

I thought I already answered this. They have no need for it so why would they?

I will if they go out of state

If they qualify for TOPS and go to an instate school, I'll gladly except getting my own money back
