By definition, welfare is the government grant any amount of money to any person or company that typically has some form of requirement
welfare, by definition, has never been "merit based"

pretty convenient you to claim this
why would I change my view on this from 30 minutes ago?

if it means you get to keep more of your own money, I'm cool with it

pretty cringey

so in the meantime, why don't you support them getting their money back until that becomes actual reality?
how is this not making sense to you?

How is my hatred of all entitlements and welfare programs somehow making me pro tax not making sense to me? Well. Hell. I couldn’t imagine why.

We should send Texas the bill for TOPS since most graduate and head that way.

this entire thread
unless you want to claim that calling TOPS a welfare program is somehow you supporting it

because, under our current reality, you don't support people getting their own money back
you just keep talking about how it should be, and I 100% agree with you, but that isn't how it is, so I don't understand the point of continually bringing it up

So... let me connect the dots in your reasoning....
You think that because I’m against the tops program, that means I fault people using it and this somehow makes me for higher taxes?
Holy logic leap Batman.
Well. Let’s see here. I’m 100% against the program in its entirety. Just as I’m against all welfare and entitlement program. However, that doesn’t mean that I fault people for doing something that is in their best interest. I don’t hate the players, I hate the game.
Now, how that relates to me somehow liking taxes? I still have no idea how that tangent came into play.

Link to where I said this. You ASSUME this.
It is possible to hate the game, not the player.

So you’re chock full of assumptions.

Louisiana is going to sink cause global warming so it is okay to end the program. No need to educate people that will leave the state.

That ship has sailed. The demographics have passed the tipping point and I am not talking about race.
Do you even need a college degree to be a plant baw? TOPS doesn't cover Law School for all these ambulance chasers. Those are the only two industries booming here.

You are right. By your tone and continuing trying to force the welfare definition onto TOPS, I did assume that was your position.
If that isn't, then I'm wrong and we probably agree on this subject almost entirely
except that TOPS isn't welfare

But do we get our money back? If the program costs more than it is worth then won't that result in higher state taxes?

TOPS absolutely need to be re-worked to be sustainable
