What’s your best advice for shipping? I sold a bunch of clothes and took them to the pack and ship store and it ate up so much profit.

Any tips? Do you charge flat shipping in the auction or calculate based on zip code? I know most “free shipping” auctions get more hits. But just curious how you mitigate your bottom line as best as possible.

Don't use those pack and ship places. They charge a hefty premium. Buy materials, pack it yourself, and use a service like pirateship to print labels.

Cost of goods, time spent antiquing, time spent listing, time spent shipping, what are we talking about per hour?

Kudos. I know a lot of people who try to do this but are not nearly as successful.

I would estimate $50+ an hour. I said earlier in this thread, on a busy week, I probably spend 10 hours or so per week, shopping, listing, and shipping. Last year, I did $28K just on eBay, divide that by 52, it’s over $500 a week, and there are several weeks I don’t do anything.

I also look at it like, instead of sitting here watching tv for a couple hours, doing nothing, I will list a few items, or box up a few items. It’s not like it’s taking away from something else I should be doing.
Going to the post office actually isn’t even a factor, because I pass one one the way to work. I stopped today and dropped off four packages. The postage is already paid, so I’m not waiting in line to pay. I just drop them on the counter. It takes 1 minute out of my time.

Why wouldn’t you use eBay to print labels? You get a discount anywhere between 10-50%.

That’s a non matching set. They don’t all match. Doesn’t hurt playability, just matters to those who care about that issue. It’s not a collectible set given condition etc… so they were players irons or fill in set basically. I’ve collected and sold collectible clubs for 30 years as a side hobby. Still a great buy and money made for those. Keep up the posts, I really enjoy them!

Disagree there. Padded mailers or reusing small Amazon boxes helps too. I’ve had success with flat rate too. Not a blanket solution but works well for many items and the packing materials are free. Can order online on usps website. All sorts of flat rate packaging

The eBay discount is fine on somethings, but pirateship is generally cheaper. It integrates with eBay and shipstation on paypal, so it isn't even an extra step. I save about 5% more with pirateship than taking ebay rates.

The only real exception is trading cards under $20. The ebay standard label at 53 cents is tough to beat.

That place is a mess lol

It is, but over the last 20 years, I bet I have pulled $40K out of that place.

It's definitely nice, but the "tracking" is fricking terrible and when dealing with eBay buyers, it can be a nightmare (thankfully that's why there's a $20 limit). I'm holding out all of my under $20 sports cards for TCGPlayer when they release their sports card marketplace this year. I already solely use their platform for trading cards under $50

Can you explain this to me? I sell between 200 and 500 cards a week in the $1 to $3 range, so always looking for lower fees and less work.

If it sports cards then you're stuck to eBay for now. If you do trading cards, sign up for a seller account on TCGPlayer.com

Anything under $25 you can just slap a toploaded card in a plain white envelop and regular postage stamp and you're good. Buyers aren't a pain to deal with and I have never encountered a "oh my stuff never showed up give me my money back" person

Do you have figures on what you spent in those 90 days? That’s a pretty good haul for a hobby.

ETA I didn’t read the thread, and I’m not reading 7 pages.
