Shortly after the book was published my dad brought him in to come speak at a conference, and the guy was clearly not well. Just living in obvious anguish.
That said, the truth is the truth, whatever it may be.
I would think that the number of wounds he sustained in the fight would lend credence to him not throwing down his rifle and running away.
Numerous shrapnel wounds, fractures, and a broken back doesn’t scream coward to me.

Agreed.
My best guess is that his "on the level" account would be that he spiced up elements of the story for the book and to draw attention to his teammates' sacrifice, which ended up bringing him attention and glory he didn't necessarily set out to get, and which cascaded into a partially tall-tale he had to continue living to avoid placing a black cloud over the whole story.
I mostly like Rob O'Neill too, but I think Rob set out to get glory for himself and it was very clear to everyone he was planting his flag in the ground for his own benefit, the full story be damned and with minimal regard for the people (including those who perhaps rightfully deserved the title he claimed) who'd be overshadowed by it.
I just have a hard time seeing that with Luttrell.

i think this is almost certainly the reality.

John McPhee AKA The Sheriff of Baghdad said on a podcast (with either Shawn Ryan or Rogen) that he had to take Kennedy down a peg and fight him because he was popping off to everyone talking about how great and tough he was
It wasn't just McPhee. It was the entire Delta team he was with. They all fought him in order of rank from lowest to highest. McPhee was 2nd to last and told him "I hope we don't have to do this again."

John Chapman. First MoH actions recorded on video. Those SEALs absolutely abandoned him on that ridge.

Kennedy appears to not know what the word "unintentionally" means.

Again, how could anyone know that without seeing this supposed predator footage or being in the investigation?
There is Taliban footage from that battle on the internet. It is pretty graphic in showing Mike Murphy's body and them looting his gear. You can hear a couple of the SEALs screaming shite like "Where are you going, Marcus? Marcus, where are you?"
It is a tough watch.

Is that the insane video of the airforce PJ guy who fought by himself for hours?
That man needs a movie, that video will put a lump in your throat. Salute to that soldier.

Yeah. Went unconscious...woke back up and killed more Taliban at point blank range...Drew fire on himself after a Chinook with more soldiers went down near his position.
The footage isn't all that clear, but you can definitely get a grasp of what he was facing:

Special Operations Command (SOC) should run an operation investigating every podcast/youtube bro.
9 out of 10 of them are lying through their teeth.
Its been known for years Kennedy was lying nobody cared.

He didn't write the book, the navy did. The navy wouldn't let a tragedy go to waste so they hired someone to write the book without talking to ML.

The public idolize these guys when they're just people, subject to the same virtues and vices as everybody else.
Jocko has almost a cult following where they think he's Moses or something. If you want some training advice or to hear some sea stories, fine, but now he's a management consultant. CEOs are paying him big bucks to tell him how to run their companies. That's bizarre.

Honestly, that’s worse to me than what ML did. That’s just shitty on the navy’s part.

100 percent. They put him in a bad spot.

Apparently he’s under investigation and that’s what this “apology” is about…
Posted on 7/9/25 at 4:39 pm to DeltaDoc
That’s great! What about the money from the podcast, TV, clothing line, book deal?
Class action maybe.

I think the best you can hope for is some form of dishonorable discharge, stripped of his beret, etc. I think there is a decent chance that happens.

Some of it translates over, some of it doesn't.
