It's called the Spanish Flu because Spain was the first to be truthful about it with the media.
Most likely started at an army base and it's true nature and extent was covered up by the military.

Yep. Since this coronavirus deal started, I've done a lot of reading about history's major pandemics. Really fascinating stuff. The Black Death is worth exploring, too.

This is somewhat of an urban myth, because we don't know for sure.
There are 3 prevailing theories:
1) Kansas
2) France
3) North China
Kansas has been the theory for a long time but there is a ton of doubt cast on it and we will never know which one of the three prevailing theories is true.

That's pretty naive. We don't know where it started. There is plenty of evidence to argue that it started in Kansas.

i don't know one way or the other.
i'm just trying to picture what Kansas was like back in 1918 and imagining some secret advanced biochemical warfare lab hidden under a cow pasture in rural Kansas.

There's a theory that ties all this together:
The British and French used contract labor from China to dig trenches and perform other work to free up soldiers for combat duty. They brought it with them. It spread to soldiers, including the American advance party, who returned to the US, bringing it with them. It found the perfect environment in the American training camps. These soldiers reinfected Europe in the main, second wave.
