this happened in Jefferson Terrace few years ago...
it's not enforced unless someone calls in a complaint...
turns out there was a "gentleman" that just decided he wanted to call in everyone he saw...EBRSO came out and started writing tickets without warning anyone...
as the OP earlier noted, one resident in the neighborhood actually took up the sidewalk and put sod on it...no more tickets...his situation was so that the sidewalk stopped at a drainage canal so it wasn't much...
not sure what happened but the tickets stopped and haven't heard anyone getting them for a few years...unless it's started back up...
I'm in the older part of the subdivision and we don't have sidewalks so no blocking them and no tickets...

Had this happen when I lived in BR. Went to court and told the cop and DA basically to GFY and they tried to tell me i'd have to remove my garage or deal with more tickets then said they would let me off the hook. Money racket is all it is. Ebpso is one corrupt organization.

Why won't this fricker answer us when we're asking him if his driveway is too short or if there are multiple cars in the driveway?

Is OP trolling? He broke the law, and i'm sure years ago, he was walking on a sidewalk, and some dickhead did the same, and OP bitched and whined about not respecting the handicapped, etc.

Good.

I can't stand when I am walking my dog and people park their cars way back and block the sidewalk. They have a freaking garage and space enough to park close to the garage and not block the sidewalk yet the choose to park back. I don't get why you would do that anyway.

just like the roads in the subdivision the building usually puts them in as well as the side walks. but then they are turned over to the parish for public maintenance.

Tax money paid for the sidewalks.
My sidewalk was not paid for, and is not kept up with using tax dollars. It was a piece of grass until the previous owner put it down.

Also, if it is the city's sidewalk, why is it that I can get sued if someone trips over it?

well, since you typically don't own the space from the start of the sidewalk to the street, I think you have no argument to stand on.

I love how the OP frames this like he's a hero fighting off the boys in blue when there's almost certainly something more sinister going on.

Pollards are masters of the non-sequitur.

First of all, you are not going to get sued if someone trips over your sidewalk unless they can prove that you were A) negligent and B) the sidewalk was "unreasonably" dangerous.

Secondly, this can apply to you whether you own the sidewalk or not. For instance if the city owns the sidewalk but you frick the sidewalk up or do something that causes it to get all fricked up then you may be liable for any harm done by that.

If a person in a wheel chair or a blind person using a stick is traveling on that sidewalk and your car causes him to have an accident then you may be liable for that no matter who owns the actual sidewalk.

Oh, and by the way parking in the grass is also illegal in many municipalities.

So the law should apply to everyone but you?

Well, you may not own the property the sidewalk sits on but I most definitely do (my lot pins are on the street side of the sidewalk). However ownership does not give me the right to block the 5 foot right of way in my front yard or the 7.5 ft right of way in the back yard. I get to own them and be taxed for them but I can’t block them. Additionally if you live in East Baton Rouge Parish you can not park on a street that does not have designated parking spaces for a period of greater than 8 hours unless you have out of state tags on your car. RV’s btw can park on the street for up too 72 hours.
