If the trees are still alive it could be a needlecast disease. Basically the needles get a fungus (i think)and all die. They then come back. But that usually happens late spring/summer

All those irritating trees that boarder my yard are mostly brown. It’s not the first time those frickers had only brown needles and came back.

When pines turn brown it’s usually over.
Most of the off-site pines trees in the delta of NELA that I’ve seen are dead or dying, either from the drought or bugs. Off-site since pines naturally grow in hill dirt. Bugs (SPB, etc.) seek out weakened and/or older trees.

drought was also really bad in Texas this summer. Mid June through September.
There are similar pine trees all through the neighborhoods in the area. The ones in our near-bye park and golf course were all marked and cut down.

Once a pine turns brown that shite ain't coming back. Lots of other dead oaks too in central LA to central MS.
Then think about the huge amounts of trees that will be falling down over the next few years. All those newly dead trees will start getting blown over during storms. Better get your chainsaws and backup electricity sources ready. We will likely have way more power outages and tree damage to contend with than we normally do.

Disregard the stupid comments.
Yes, this has been an extreme drought and there will be a huge number of trees (several species) not recover from it. Take notice of how many trees that are in a typical "wet" area have turned brown. REASON....they did not develope a deep root system due to being in a "wet" area and during a severe drought, the shallow root system is sucking hind tit looking for water.
Take notice of how many Magnolias are totally brown...they gone.
