re: Thoughts on Remote Work/Work From Home Long Term?

I’ve been teleworking from home since March and love it. I enjoy the freedoms that working from home give me as opposed to being in the office 8 plus hours a day. I still go into the office on occasion to accomplish some tasks that can’t be done from home but those are very few. One of the biggest perks is that I’ve really saved on mileage and wear and tear on my car from commuting five days a week. Unlike some others, I’ve used the time to exercise more (taking several breaks during the day to go for a short walk/jog and eat healthier, especially at lunch. I miss some of the social interaction with my coworkers but not enough to want to go back to the office environment any time soon.

Wow, you should hold a Leadedship conference and then at the end of it, have the little dude from from the lawyer table in My Cousin Vinny say:
“Everything that guy said is bullshite.”
And I hate working from home.

It’s hard for the job market to become truly global for two main reasons:
1. Language barrier, if you hire China or India for work good luck communicating with them in complex situations.
2. Time zones: no one wants to wait 12 hours to get an email.
I think the remote hire from anywhere will be more like a country wide field to deal with vs truly global once it all shakes out.
This will bring some interesting issues up at the state level though as far as pay toll taxes, benefits, nexus arguments for income tax purposes. It will also effect things like the job tax credits.

The good of work from home has been:
1. No commute
2. More time with the dogs
3. More time to do things around the house
4. Less times on projects
The bad is the lack if interaction and it takes longer for new people to be fully integrated.
I would be ok working some form of hybrid schedule. Like going in for meetings on certain days. I would like to get back to on site client meetings.

My office never closed but I did it for a couple of months for my wife's mental health.
Was remarkably efficient for most of that time.
Not being in the office to interact with others and bounce ideas sucked.

Agreed, I think the vast majority of employers are either going back to the office once this all ends or will go to a hybrid model that still requires employees to be local.

Once a few companies go full remote/hybrid others will have to adapt to it. I don’t see how other accounting firms will be able to compete if one firm goes full remote or hybrid and they try to return to the only work in the office model. All the top talent will get poached. You can even see the lines being drawn as the younger more mobile employees are all on the remote/hybrid model.
This probably only works in some of the industries that are highly competitive already.

This is part of the fallacy that is WFM. I keep hearing from our people that are doing it that their more efficient. bullshite, they're making longer to make more mistakes than when they were in the office.

Working from home is tough for all the unhappy middle aged dads who look forward to work to get away from their nagging wife and annoying kids.
