Our cali trip in 1981. Took 3 days. My dad has his video camera On a dash mount he made in the van. Videoed a lot of that trip. Watched some a while back. The center line stripes on I 10 were going by sooooo slow. I'm yelling at the tv to give it gas and go. 55 mph will get you killed today

My days in the military peeing in the bottle for road trips were the norm. We ain't stopping til we get to our party spots. Those little 16 oz bottles weren't big enough on a full bladder fwiw.

Those trips as a kid in the mid seventies from Chattanooga to our home in Concordia parish were brutal in the backseat of the old brown pinto. The interstate wasn't finished back then so Alabama was a complete nightmare.

Used to take like 8 hours to get from Nola to Houston with my dad driving. I grew up thinking Nola to BR was two hours.

Avoyelles Parish to Lafayette. Had to pack a lunch back before I-49 was finished when I was a kid. Lol. Now I am looking at Evangeline Thruway in 50 minutes from my house.

Driving to Michigan and back seemed like half my childhood.

When my old man was driving it wasn't forever. That 4 barrel 454 (or whatever the Buick Estate Wagon had) was open, a lit Pall Mall, Falstaff, foot to the floor yelling " put that god damn window up son. You're letting the smoke out."

driving anywhere took a hell of a lot longer back then...most roads were only 2 lanes and didn't have much of a shoulder. vehicles didn't have air conditioners, so you had to drive with the windows down.

lecompte to new Iberia took a couple of hours...now less than an hour.

I used to think the drive from Alexandria to New Orleans was the longest drive ever. I would pack my pillow and snacks and everything like it was this huge road trip.

It was, before I 49

We used to go to New Orleans from Mobile. It's 2 hours but seemed like it took the entire day.

Dude, it's about 90 miles from Lecompte to New Iberia. You ain't making it in less than an hour unless your are in a plane. Lol.

What seemed long for my brother and I was a trip from our home in Pasadena, TX to St. Landry parish. Having to lie down behind the seats of my dad's Vette. Felt like forever.

I remember having to piss into an empty large cup from Burger King and if we didn't have any containers, it was pulling over on the interstate, open the passenger door and take a wizz near the door.
