Those road trips that took forever as kid but now as an adult seem short

I found my answer: My mom was a slow arse driver.
She is driving from Laffy to jville today going on 12 hours now still not here. It takes me 8 -9 hours
Those 5 hour trips to Houston to visit Astroworld as a kid also
Anyone else remember those long road trips as a kid?

As a kid, I remember driving from Kenner to the north shore felt like two + hours. Now that bridge is nothing lol.

My parents were from Connecticut. There was no fast way to drive from the MS coast to there.

When the interstate was regulated to 55mph every drive was brutal

Your mom probably drive faster when she was younger. A lot of people start slowing down when they get older.
Laffy to Jax is no joke. That stretch from T-town to Jax is boring but I'll give Florida props for having rest stops every 30 miles or so. Or at least they used to 10 years ago when I frequented Jax.

Nope you missed the part about a 5 hour drive from Laffy to Houston. She has always driven slow.

55 mph and no cruise, I can still see that speedometer drifting between 50-60. Looking thru the cloud of cig smoke from my Dad.

I used to think the drive from Alexandria to New Orleans was the longest drive ever. I would pack my pillow and snacks and everything like it was this huge road trip.

Mines the opposite. We used to drive down to Florida to visit my grandma when I was a kid nearly every year, which never bothered me at all and that was a 16+ hour drive.
Now I lose my fricking mind if we drive down to Myrtle Beach to visit my brother(12 hour drive). That's sort of a different point made from where the OP was headed, but the older I get the less time I can stand being in the car(which makes it feel longer).

I get what you are saying also. Anything over 10 hours I will definitely check the prices on airfare.

My mom would look up the ETA of any trip and try and beat it by hours. You had to pee? Go frick yourself.
