I definitely wouldn't tell prospective employers that you up and quit your recent job and wouldn't have that on the resume. Best to act as if you still have the old job.
Oops

where do you live, about how old are you, what type of experience as well as education do you have?
Baton Rouge, 28, entry experience in quite a few things varying from construction to transpiration/crane, but like I said I'm willing to try new things and broaden my horizon a little bit.

I know a guy who got laid off from an executive job last November and has been out of work since. It's tough out there.

As an aside, how do you have 38k posts and posting since 2008, and this is the first I recall of seeing your screen name?

try some steel companies. Pay isn't great but PVF companies have good retention . Southern Pipe, US Metals, Vass,Stupp, Brecheen. Now you may have a warehouse, driver job to start but they like to promote from within.

Broaden your horizons and move to DFW. Just drive around with your windows down (even though it is hot). People will throw job offers into your car.
I quit without a new job a year and a half ago because the company was (and did) go bankrupt. It took 3 months to find one, didn't like it, took 3 months to find another one, which is great so far (1 year today).
If you can afford leaving no amount of money is worth being in a job where you are miserable, assuming you perform well. If you are miserable because you can't/won't perform that would be a different story because that may be harder to fix somewhere else.
Edit to add: and job searches suck for everybody unless you have a well-defined rare skill (but if it is too rare not many people need it)
I don't understand why recruiters and HR people aren't thought of as poorly as lawyers and politicians and journalists. No profession lies more.

shite, if I found myself in that situation I'd move to a new part of the country, say Colorado, and start applying there.

Define "Construction experience".
Office? Field? Project management? Subcontractor/GC? Carpenter?
Can you estimate? Do you know how to use Project or Primivera?
Do you have a degree?
