There's actually a psychological term for doing that ... I just cannot remember what it is.
It was depicted, in gruesome form, in a movie years ago. I think he was Tom Berringer who castrated himself with an electric knife. I just remember how controversial it was, as a scene, back in the 70s.
Happens more than most realize.
Looking for Mister Goodbar was the movie maybe ... I think. Has to do with self loathing, self mutilation. It's as old as time.
