I'm sure JBE will use this as an excuse to raise taxes on any and every thing.

Well he sure hasn't helped nor will he which makes this even more of a concern.

This is my thinking. If your a sub or an employee of a sub and you have been getting fair wages and steady work, are you really going to up and leave for a quick payday?

Apparently a girl called me a pussy, a cuk and I've been accused of not wearing big boy pants. Guess I should have just started a wyhi or Taylor Swift thread so they could be engaged.
i wasn't asking for a shittier thread to be made. i just think this one is stupid, because i completely disagree with your position.
if there are problems caused by the storm, my suggestion is to adapt. how about you just solve the problems that come up? prepare for the worst and hope for the best. the south gets hit with hurricanes every year. there are ebbs and flows in the hiring market all the time.
this isn't something new that we will see.
and leave taylor out of this.

How about your dumbass learning reading comprehension?

look, martini. this thread is redundant.
every year there's another disaster.
jobs are created, and jobs are lost.
i seriously doubt you will feel anything more than a ripple effect from harvey.
also, calm the frick down.

Can't we all just get along?
This is some really petty crap by all parties during such a devastating time for the region

So should I expect the estimate I just received from a contractor to go up?
Nah, but do expect the contractor's grandmother to die and he won't be able to do your project. That or you just won't hear from him ever again this point forward.
People giving the OP shite in this thread are dumb. He's spot on. Why would workers stay in one place when they can make %50 more 5 hours away? And don't make like this is your run of the mill disaster, this is shaping up to be the biggest natural disaster of all time.

Yes? Isn't that the MO of a lot of contractors? Not all are shitty or only looking for the next dollar, but a significant portion are. If they think they can make more money they'll pick their shite up without looking back

And now add Irma to the mix. But hey...don't mind me.
BR Business Report
While elected officials and leaders from the construction and industrial sectors continue to assess the extent of damage along the Texas coast from Hurricane Harvey, they know this much already: The storm, which dumped upwards of 50 inches of rain on east Texas two weeks ago, will cause a labor shortage that is likely to negatively impact Louisiana’s industrial construction sector.
“From a Louisiana perspective, especially over in Lake Charles, they’re concerned about the impact on construction,” says Greg Bowser, president of the Louisiana Chemical Association and the Louisiana Chemical Industry Alliance. “You’re going to have a drain on the workforce and we’re going to feel that here.”

I saw a caravan of contractor basket trucks with Texas plates heading Eastbound through Baton Rouge this morning.
I guess Florida pays better than Texas.

Power grid. As of now for that scope yes it does. I also have several friends with Entergy that are there now as well after spending the last two weeks around Houston. They are out of Baton Rouge and pretty worn out. But that's a normal cycle and those guys know it.
But we are in the middle so maybe all the truck stops and gas stations along I-10 and I-12 will do fine.
In a meeting last week at a plant by Gramercy two nice projects were put on hold due to labor shortage that would have started in the next 45 days. They eventually will get done but it will take awhile. Their call - not mine as I have my personnel but I'm downstream so I don't make those decisions but it's $2 million in revenue I won't see in 2017.
On the other hand Texas is nonstop for us but has been for the last ten years.

the biggest concern will be on raw materials. Our company is already signing unit price & volume contracts with suppliers and warehousing for major projects we have coming. I lived in NE Florida when Katrina struck and believe me, it took about three months after the storm before PVC, copper, studs, and drywall increased 20%-30%. It was tough to find people to do drywall, other trades were more stable. Moved to Nola in 2007, now we're stock piling materials to guarantee substantial completion of work already under contract.
oh, and since the refineries in Houston were affected, expect PVC prices to stay inflated for longer than normal.
