Car was left unlocked with keys and schedule II controlled drugs left inside. Your guns were nowhere near readily accessible in an emergency need situation. Sounds like the guy picked a good target tbh.

Like I told my wife…dude hit the lottery. Can’t argue that,

So we gonna get to see pictures of the tranny or not?

I don’t think I would have started a thread admitting to this. I guess it’s a good PSA for what not to do

We do keep loaded guns in the house. fricktard. For reasons I won’t go into, they were temporarily locked in a walk up attic.

I encourage you to go into those reasons.

How bout you do a post Morten on this situation so you and your wife don’t make the same mistake? You deserve everything bad that happens to you because you refuse to acknowledge responsibility for any of it.

You married? Kids? Do you know my wife?

Me yelling at them for leaving keys in the car, whoever it was ain’t gonna make my life better in any way.

A little backstory. A few months after moving to Charlotte, I was back in MS for a funeral. That night, 3 dudes broke into the house while my wife was asleep. Thank God they didn’t go upstairs, just wanted to steal.
If I would have been home someone would have been killed (always have a loaded gun next to the bed). Hopefully not me.

My wife has true PTSD from that. So frick off.

Agree..dumb. But it wasn’t in view and not in a med bottle. Wouldn’t have been seen if car was locked.

What would you have done?

Not keep my guns and ammo in inconvenient locations in the house

I don't live in Mayberry by any means but you might need to move unless you're just unlucky.

So let me get this straight. Your home protection is in the attic, not cocked, not locked, not ready to rock. Yes. But for a reason and not the usual. The one thing I DO need to have is a locked up,quickly accessible gun downstairs. I agree with that. You left the keys in your vehicle. I did not. My wife or kid did. Your wife left medication in the vehicle. Yeah, not smart, but it wasn’t visible and had nothing to do with the 2 time felon stealing the vehicle. Total that up and you're here bitching about the guy getting out of jail?Yeah…actually i am. But if it makes you feel better to blame me feel free. That's a failure on all fronts for you and your family, take it as a (very lucky) lesson and get better.

Seriously, find a home defense / security instructor or ask the cops if they can run you through the basics at your home.

You're fortunate this guy wasn't armed, intending to harm you or your family.

Next time, and nowadays you never know, you may not be physically able to call 911, leaving your defenseless wife to the whims of a don't give a shite criminal.

Glad you shared your story; you may not be so lucky next time.

I'd have motion cameras on the front porch, driveway, alarms, maybe a noisy dog. Hell, I do have all of that already.

I'm sorry for OPs vehicle and burglary. He doesn't sound like he deserved it either. Being a little careless doesn't mean you should be victimized. There are a lot of pieces of shite in this world.

OP, you seriously need to keep a gun that’s easier to access in your downstairs area and not locked away in your attic.

Why not? Seems you would not catch nearly as much heat as you're catching if you had a valid reason to keep firearms as far away from you as possible.

I’ll take the heat and obviously knew it was coming, but I’d rather do that than go into the why. I’m sure all,the OT’ers are super buttoned up and have zero issues keeping their Gucci AR’s at an arms length at all times.

That is not what I expect a tweaker/career criminal to look like. If I saw him on the street I'd think he was a normal dude

Yep. I know that. Any good recommendations on a biometric print safe other than Vaultek?

I keep one in the den. Two in the kitchen. One in hall bathroom. One in my office. One in master bedroom. One in garage. All hidden, but all also loaded and ready.

They make all kinds of storage devices now that keep a gun fairly hidden; but readily available if you know where they are.

The one place I don’t have one is upstairs. i don’t figure they are going to get a ladder and come through a window or cut a hole in the roof to rob me.
