Know several professionals (doctors, business owners and lawyers) that made the move to the Panhandle over the past 15-20 years. All of them say it was a great decision to leave NOLA and none have ever looked back.

I like the fact that he says "open your mind", yet his entire post oozes with contempt for those who don't share his opinions.

Moved from BR to Pensacola in ‘06. Pensacola is a weird place man, and I can’t put my finger on it. The people are fairly nice, but strange. I think it’s because most of the people there are transplants from around the Country and so there is no sense of culture there. Coming from Louisiana, I guess we just take that for granted. We felt like we were transplants living with other transplants. My parents followed us there a year after, then we moved back to BR a year after that. They are still there and love it, fwiw.

Florida is great with the tax break but why Pensacola? I'm sure it's better than the NOLA suburbs but Central Florida is really much much nicer than the panhandle.

Pinellas or Orange/Osceola counties are sweet.

Or a quick 1 hour, 15-minute flight to Nashville from via Southwest Pensacola airport.

Yeah, you can do that too. I'm just more of a driving type, and there is some pretty nice scenery between Pensacola and Nashville. Especially once you get North of Bham. Even better if you head towards Chattanooga.

I've worked a bunch in Pcola.

The mix of people in Pensacola is totally weird. Military folk, snowbirds, retirees, rednecks, gays, hoodrats, beach bums, and college kids. Lots of transplants obviously. Then there are the tourists.

But I really dig Pensacola. There is a lot to do. Downtown is nice. The beach is nice. Fishing is good. Good hunting is close. Lots of rivers close. Other nice beach towns are close.

I've considered moving down there myself.

If you move look to the East Hill neighborhood to find a home. That is if you don't want to worry about beach hassel...spring/summer traffic, evacuating, etc.. East Hill is about 1.5-2 miles from downtown and you can easily bike to all the bars, restaurants, and other events downtown. Plenty of local drinkeries in East Hill too so you don't necessarily have to go downtown.

But like others have mentioned. Its got its problems like any other city in the south and there is plenty of trash north of I-10.

thoughts on Pensacola

Nice beaches, no state income tax, easy to Atlanta and New Orleans, SWA operates there.

No. The people that are happy where they live also hate on Florida. It’s universal

Pensacola WalMart is the trashiest WalMart I have ever been in...hands down.

My friend, next time you're around the area, make a side trip to the glorious DeFuniak Springs Wal-Mart.

In my humble opinion, it should be the 8th Wonder of the World.
