You’re still young enough to enjoy life and be active. I’d prob suggest moving to a bigger city with more options of entertainment and stuff to do. The mindset of the people in Pensacola wont be that much different than Baton Rouge or any other small city in ‘the south’.

I moved away for bigger and better things at 30, and that was 30 years too late. Louisiana sucks.

It always amazes me when people want to ‘get away’ from Louisiana and move to MS, AL, AR, or some town like Pensacola. Try Scottsdale, Nashville, Austin, Charlotte, San Diego, etc. Open your damn mind a little.

River Ridge is not a shithole -- quite the contrary, actually.

lol i love this schtick

it's indicative of anyone who isn't happy with where they live, they just hate on fla because its the popular thing to do

all the while floridians have no state income taxes, great infrastructure, good schools, and easy access to beaches and a shite ton of other things to do

Love Pensacola! Honeymooned there 48 yrs ago. Wife and I seriously thought about retiring there. But not a big airport for direct flights to places our kids live. And one of our kids is divorced with 2 children. We opted to go where she lives... DFW metroplex. So no beaches, but direct flights to/for our other two kids & grands.

I’d try West Palm Beach or down the Atlantic Coast as opposed to Pensacola.

Thought you were a St. Petersburg man. Dissapointed to hear you have lived on the Gulf Coast

Pensacola isn’t that nice, but is a HUGE upgrade from any city in Louisiana.

This seems like the correct answer. I kinda like Pensacola because it's got a vibe that doesn't really exist anymore in gulf beach towns, but I agree that I'd never really call it "nice"

It's fine and it's adjacent to beaches.

It's not that shocking that people don't want to move hundreds of miles away to entirely different cultures/climates.

He said that he is a pharmacist, and he can transfer to Pensacola. I take that to mean, that he can stay with his same company, because they have an opening there.

He gets to keep all of his Paid time off that he has built up, keep getting that company match on his 401k etc..

I have a Marine buddy who moved from BR to Gulf Breeze 5 years ago. I recommend living in GB instead of Pcola. You're only minutes from Pcola and the beach, but you don't have to deal with most of the craziness.

No income tax would be nice.

I'd imagine real estate, overall, would be cheaper than New Orleans. Aside from petty crime, I'd imagine its considerably safer than New Orleans. However, you would be lacking in the "big city" amenities. Pensacola does have a Southwest hub, so you can travel to some interesting places fairly cheaply.

Having the beach readily available would be nice, but you better love that style of beach. I'd imagine the place would be dead in the late fall and winter months, which may or may not be a bad thing.

You'd have to constantly deal with the threat of hurricanes which would really, really suck. That said, New Orleans certainly deals with the same. Maybe its a wash.

If you're into slowing down and taking it easy, why not?

Yeah, plus if he wants some different type of scenery, it's only about 4 hours drive north, to the foothills, 3 more hours to Nashville or Chattanooga.

Or a quick 1 hour, 15-minute flight to Nashville from via Southwest Pensacola airport.
