Incredible. It gets even more original each time it's repeated.

The Henry Ford in DTW will take you two days. Stay at the Dearborn Marriott if at all possible - it is a historic hotel right across the street from the Henry Ford. Henry's mansion is also worth a visit. The Rouge tour is just OK, but I am probably biased against it because I have been all over the inside of the plant. Get out of downtown (exc Greektown) by sundown if you go.

In Chi-town, I'm sure someone has already mentioned the Museum of Industry. They have a German WWII U-boat inside that you can tour.

Go to Wildberry for breakfast, Plan to walk a LOT that day, as you and the fam will be stuffed. They have Banana Coconut Cream Pie.....Pancakes. Do you need to know more?

Last of all, HeyJackass.com has invaluable maps and stats on where NOT to go. URL aside, the site is actually totally SFW.

If you stay until next Friday go to the White Sox game vs the Cubs at New Comiskey. It might be the day the Sox breaks the MLB losing streak record at 24.

No.

Way better options, like Bavette’s.

But definitely so the architecture tour. I think the historical society one takes you through the lock onto Lake Michigan.

Among those already mentioned, the Brookfield Zoo is world class. Perhaps too young to appreciate, the Art Institute of Chicago has Medieval and Renaissance paintings that are mind blowing.

Be sure to walk out on the glass floor suspended over the building at Sears Tower for a nice touch of vertigo. Lol.

The Museum of Science and Industry is awesome, can’t all be done in one day, browse their web site and plan ahead.

Great city to visit, good food and plenty to do for all ages.

You’re bringing kids to Chicago? That might be even worse than bringing your children to New Orleans.

Gibson’s is fine but unremarkable. Bavette’s is the answer here.

That’s not even comparable. Chicago is a much better city and it’s not even close.

Used chatGPT last year to plan an itinerary on our Chicago trip.

Tons of ASTC musems in chicago that offer free tickets if you are a member. We're a member of our local children's museum which offers reciprocal tickets. The Chicago too pretty good as well and FREE

Millennium park is a complete shithole. Keep your head on a swivel. Was their spring 2023 when the riots broke out. Packs of wild animals everywhere

Happy to help, took mine up there when they weren't much older. An old friend who still lives there said "So, brought the fam to see the Ruins of Detroit, huh? Sorta like the Greek ruins, but newer and more dangerous."

The Henry Ford is one of the world's finest museums. When you see the generator that ran his first major plant, climb up on it and imagine the cacophony and sheer power you would experience at the control console, standing just a few feet away from a 6,000 HP generator, with little or no insulation or housing around it.

When you round a corner and see their premier locomotive exhibit, imagine seeing that thing pass you by on the Great Plains at 80 MPH or more. I always made a point of taking my young engineers there when we went to DTW for conferences, and that locomotive stopped every one of them in their tracks when they saw it.

Take the time to study up on Duesenbergs and Bugattis to wow your kids about how incredible those cars were for their times, if they have them on display (they rotate). There are so many ultra-rare, one of a kind exhibits there that you lose track, but quite a few of them are cars, as expected.

Keep your eyes peeled while driving around - you are right in the middle of the Ford Motor campus, and you will almost certainly see camouflaged future model cars & trucks running around. There are not many good restaurants around outside of national chains. Do NOT cross the Southfield Freeway beyond what is obviously Ford Land territory after dark.

Get a 2 day pass on the Big Bus and catch a ride thru out Chicago for 2 days. There'll be 15 stops so you'll definitely get 2 days worth out of it.

Also, Eleven Diner for breakfast you can't go wrong.

Don't get Pizza Uno or fricking Pizza Due.

Big Bus Tours

If you go to a Cubs Game, go ahead of time to get your pictures, they'll get sassy if you taking pictures during the game and there ain't enough time to take them between innings. Obstructed views are cheaper tickets.

Field museum

Museum of Science and Industry

Has 6 and 8 years old and they loved both of theses

Giant Rex (Sue) in Field museum.
Along with the ghost and the darkness lions.

Tesla coil in museum of science and industry. As well as a German submarine and some trains. All full size I believe. It is housed in the Palace of Fine Arts from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition
