Summer of Hope

quote:

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced this evening the Summer of Hope initiative, an 8-week boots-on-the-ground activation led by Safe Hopeful Healthy Baton Rouge, a program dedicated to treating violence as a public health epidemic. The summer initiative includes programs, activities, and events set to kick off the first week of June

The Summer of Hope activation will focus on violence reduction, amplify positive activities during the summer, and provide proactive mitigation and intervention in our most vulnerable neighborhoods

So all of you negative Nancy’s will have to find something else to complain about come fall.

I can't fault them for trying to fix the problem.

Sounds great - I wonder what the catalog includes: cooking meth 101, book your stay for a fun weekend at OYO, Facebook live tutorial for future killers, and beginner engine maintenance for the dodge challenger

This is the equivalent of midnight basketball. It won't do a thing.

The thing that would help is hiring more cops, stronger proactive policing and long sentences for violent criminals.

Maybe you didn’t read the article but it said there would be programs, activities, and events.

One of the planned activities is called Healing the Block, which will be a series of dinners and conversations hosted by the Baton Rouge Community Street Team that will allow residents to share their ideas and concerns about issues impacting their neighborhoods.

We have now moved on to catered dinners

Locking up repeat offenders would be so much more effective Sharon.

At least there is an effort. In Jackson they'd rather argue over whether or not to go ahead with a proposal to help foster an idea that would help fight crime. In the end, it turns out to be a barbecue in a public park.

Even if that happened, which it won't, it wouldn't make a big difference

What could make a big difference is acknowledging the toxicity of modern black culture -- specifically, the destruction of the black family.

For that to happen, attitudes would have to change all around the country. And they won't.

That’s basically what this is but I’m sure we’ve paid lots on non profits to scout it out first.

SWB is an oportunistic jack arse. Nothing will change while she and her cronies are milking this city dry. She sucks.

Come on BR get ur shite together and quit electing idiots just because of skin color.

This. Every single word.

The only thing that can truly repair the violence epidemic for the long term is a change in the black culture.

Encourage the nuclear family. Encourage kids to get educated. Quit listening to violent rap music full of bad messages for the young people (I listen to rap, too, so this makes me feel hypocritical. I am 26).

The Democratic Party is caught in a catch 22. The decrease in violence could benefit them politically, but they depend so much on the black vote that it’s in their best interest to keep them in a negative position.

That way, they can keep promising them that the government can take care of them and will one day make everything better. Keep them dependent on the party. Keep their children in shitty public schools because they want to help the teachers’ union.
