If they’re only testing in limited instances, how can they ever establish any kind of baseline to estimate if the spread is getting better or worse?

It’s not about not wanting to test. It’s about saving the tests for those that it would change their plan of care. Once tests aren’t limited, I’m sure things will change.

Someone asked about vents earlier. I don’t want to say which hospital I am at, but system wide sharing is being used because of limited resources. This includes vents and personnel being sent between hospitals. Surgeries postponed is leading to surgery, post op, etc staff being sent bedside.

People keep saying to test everyone. Yeah that is nice in theory and all...but you have to actually have the supplies to do that. Again....there are not enough tests to test everyone. I just wish people could understand that more.

There aren’t enough tests because the WHO allocated them to other countries rather than the United States because they said the United States has more resources and developing nations don’t.

She was asked to go around to the back door of the facility so the doctor could give her an exam.
So the "doctor" examined her in the alley ?

They cant contain this. This isn't surprising. Our system isn't built to handle this.

Hell no system is built for it

antibiotics. I called back and said she needed to be tested for covid19.

Hope your daughter is better soon... but what are they going to different if she test positive?

Thanks. Antibiotics are for the pneumonia. If she tests positive then fluids and rest which shes been doing for a week. We have been dousing the house in isopropyl alcohol for the last week also. She is quarantined to her room. Thats about all you can do. She is doing great but this thing is a bit scary when it hits this close to home. I dismissed this hysteria a few weeks ago but now am humbled.

You are a hyperbolic moron and I bet it runs in your family.

The doctor told her that because she didn't have an underlying condition, she was not going to be tested for Covid-19. She has severe epilepsy. She has an implant similar to a pacemaker, to help reduce the number of seizures she has. Unfortunately, this condition isn't one of the underlying conditions that qualify for testing.

Dear Facebook,

Today a medical doctor contradicted my opinion on what qualifies as an eligible underlying condition to administer a fixed-supply test. Therefore, in my unprofessional and emotionally biased opinion, this is some bullshite and the government is lying to us!!

Also, your Facebook friend’s sister is at greater risk of complications due to the repeated surgeries involving the VNS implant she wears than the events she experienced at the testing site. But i do hope they continue to manage her seizures effectively.

Nurse, what's your expectancy of the next 2-6 weeks? Do you see this as doomsday scenario or think it's something we can get through by around June?

I'm curious the thoughts of those of you that work in the hospital settings? You've probably stated it before but I really haven't been in all these threads, it gets to be a bit much at times.

Honestly I have no idea.

Civilization isn't coming to an end by any means but it is frustrating that people STILL don't take this threat seriously.

AZ hasn't been hit that hard yet, so honestly I feel like I'm holding my breath right now. Hearing from nurse friends all over the U.S. about how they are seeing more and more relatively healthy adults in their 30s and 40s on vents with this is concerning to me.

I guess by doomsday I meant hospitals overwhelmed, people dying in the hallways, mandatory quarantine, that kind of thing. I guess I don't really know what I mean.

I know it's been said 100's of times, but I feel terrible for the people losing their jobs in all this. Restaurant owners and full time employees have to be losing their damn minds right now.

I'm lucky, I don't have to leave my living room to work and if anything, I'm just about to be busy and stressed out of my mind for the same amount of pay, but that's childs play to losing my job and having a mouth to feed.

Counting my blessings.
