This won't happen tomorrow, and that's why many will laugh it off as being absurd. But incrementally, it will eventually be implemented.

Turning off the car isn’t as big of a deal as the inability to work on your own car.
You want to swap out the battery on your Tesla? You can’t. How about replace a screen? One of the electric motors? Nope. You can’t order any parts. Everything has to be done through Tesla and their service center. Computer systems in ICE cars can theoretically make this more difficult in those vehicles but currently you can do your own repairs on basically any GM, Ford, Toyota, Honda ICE vehicle. Parts for your drivetrain, interior, exterior body, etc. are all readily available through local auto parts stores and online retailers.

Yeah, just like they would never limit your ability to work. Or force you to shut down your business because the gov deems it “non-essential.” Thats crazy talk. That would never happen…
What happens when a group of politicians gets into power and declares a “climate emergency” and prevents you from charging your car? You know, because they are trying to save the environment? Or forces private companies to brick your car? They’ve never forced private companies to do anything against there will before right? Certainly not within the last two years…

This is something I don't worry about as much as they can shut down ICE cars as well if they really wanted to. Just force the gas stations to close or shut off electricity to gas stations. Can't buy gas if the gas station pumps have no electricity.
