Jesus there are some real dumb, stupid fricking people in this world
There are more sharks now than there were years ago ... because they banned any harvest of them - some sharks have been designated as endangered.
There are more people that swim in the water than before and there are more sharks in the water than ever before. So, the incident rate of shark bites is only going to go in one direction.
Not to mention there is a shitload of bait out there (at least in the Destin area) because there is not a lot of pressure on fishing right now because people are too broke to pay $1000s of dollars for deep sea fishing trips - which means there’s a lot of bait - when there’s a lot of bait, sharks come in wanting to eat that bait.
Also, May-June is when sharks mate - when sharks are mating they are very aggressive. They actually bite the shite out of other sharks.
But but but - let’s blame the shark attacks on climate change, vaccinated people, etc!!!
No need to blame the shark attacks on actual normal Mother Nature!!
fricking idiots

It’s because we won’t stop using plastic straws

Yeah!
And now the sharks are all snorting cocaine from the bales dropped into the gulf by the cartel.
I was in Pensacola the other day and had a geeked out hammerhead talk to me for 2 hours about his idea for a Podcast called "Let Me Fin-ish."

We should put Cackles in the water to help broker an accord

Despite what the "local" Florida residents are claiming, June has always seen a spike in shark activity. I spend about half the year in NW FL and it has always been active near shore and farther out in the gulf. With that said, stupid conservation efforts to limit the targeting of shark has increased the population. The increased population of shark along with June being the most active season for shark leads to the "Jaws" like reactions. To be fair, the shark population didn't just explode overnight, last summer was pretty significant as well.

Deep sea fishing trips aren't putting a dent in bait numbers
Now, commercial fishing does, but I'm not sure if that has slowed down or not.

I am not trying to be argumentative here, but rather seriously inquiring.
Why is this stupid? Shark numbers were well below where they should be for the ecosystem to be properly balanced, right? Are you (and others) saying the conservation efforts are stupid because of more people getting bitten by sharks or for other reasons?

Usually mistaken identity. The wrong little splash in front of the wrong shark with the wrong visibility will sometimes get a little nibble. It’s amazing there aren’t many many more with the amount of people who are just feet from large numbers of sharks on a daily basis.
We’re not dealing with overly intelligent creatures here.

Whoever invents a very effective, and cost effective, long range shark deterrent underwater noise/vibration/etc. machine will be a wealthy person.
They have versions, but their efficacy and price are not great.

people fishing on the beach
Stop fishing near resorts and crowded areas with common beach goers looking to swim. It's not that hard. Look for the place that had chairs, umbrellas and a bunch of people the day before. If you don't know where those place are, find out before you cast and if you've already got bait in the water and see them setup, reel it in and move.
Don't fart on planes
Don't mow your lawn at 6:45 on a Saturday
Return your shopping cart
Don't set up a 10x10 tent right in the middle of a crowded beach
Tip your servers
Say good morning, good evening
Respect other peoples time and property
Leave things better for the people behind you

I’ve watched enough spear fishing videos to know that sharks are attracted to action. One guy I watch in Key West will brain and bleed every fish he catches in the water with sharks present. He says blood has never attracted them—it’s when they are wriggling after he shoots one where they will swarm the dying fish. I can see how someone playing in the water can attract the shark which is probably what happens during most shark attacks.

I agree with this, but not because of sharks. It's just a dick move. I don't think it's attracting more sharks to the shore line.

Now just hold on right there, guy. I was not going to blame those things you mentioned. I was going to blame Trump for all of these shark attacks.

Karen’s on Facebook complaining about how it’s the people fishing on the beach that’s causing them to attack
Not arguing if this is a cause (because I have no clue), but there has been a noticeable uptick in people fishing from the shore during all hours of the day.

Why haven’t more people been attacked in Grand Isle then, where literally everyone is there to fish? It’s like a prime spot for sharks because of all the fish and action there, yet I’ve never heard of a shark attack down there. I’ve seen them swimming just several feet away from me before. Like why doesn’t it happen there like it does in the touristy beach spots?
