There's no way you can account for crazy during courtship.

I believe that there's no way to account for your future spouse becoming irrational or crazy during future years while dating. When we date someone we're really interested in we put our best foot forward, as does the other person. Short term everything seems awesome and legit. Long term - no one really knows what beast they're going to turn into.
Isn't it just a shot in the dark as to if this person stays the way they seem after years of being together? Kinda like gambling.....
What say the OT?

That's why getting married at 20ish is Russian roulette
With one bullet
With this revolver
Don't do it kids
ETA: a bit of clarification

It's not what they turn into, it is that the "best foot forward" mask falls off and you see them for what they truly are.
For example, the last one I dated had one of the best masks that I've ever seen. No flags popped until almost a year in, and we were together a lot. Then one day her crazy started to show...well, that and when she told me that I calmed her so much that she didn't need her meds anymore. Now, yeah, as time went on and unfortunate circumstances happened that led to some, let's say, really bad things happening (not her fault but someone else's) that brought out the crazy. And yeah, she was crazy. Big time.
But, when she was on she was the most awesome woman I've ever dealt with. We got each other better than even my ex-wife and I did over our 10 year marriage. However, extremely jealous. Extremely.
Sex? The best I've ever had with anyone, ever. In fact, she's pretty much ruined me for more "vanilla" women. It's kind of tough to go back to vanilla when you've had the whole fricking lineup. Crazy is the best in bed, though.

So date for 4 years and meet their family and friends.

That's why you date them long enough to figure this shite out. People who get married before ever living together are asking for it.

Yep. Pretty damn frustrating if you ask me.

I think it’s possible to determine to some degree. It’s easy to overlook or ignore certain behaviors when you’re on Cloud 9.

Get references. Dating is like a job hunt baw.

Disagree. You just have to run some tests, such as a surprise taser to the arse, or "accidentally" breaking the condom. You'll see who they really are.

My rule: 90 Days to first crazy
At day 90 you will get your first taste of what their brand of crazy is. After that, it is on you.
However that is just for the ones who attempt to hide it.
Most are 90 seconds to first crazy. To those we say "sit on my face"

If you call dating "courtship" then you better get used to crazy.

This is why you live together long before getting married. I lived with my last ex for 2 years and then we broke up. Best bullet I ever dodged because when we first moved in together I THOUGHT I wanted to marry her....boy was I wrong.
I thank whatever higher power there may be to keep me from making that mistake legally binding.

In hindsight there were always signs for me. shite I overlooked because I was getting laid i guess.
In theory I am a fan of waiting a while before sex because if you know you are gonna be hitting it later you might be putting up with shite that you wouldn't if you know that you arent

No tats, no duck face selfies, no solo selfies or mirror pictures as profile photos, no kids, no bro country lyric facebook posts, no "God won't give you more than you can handle" facebook posts, no more than one facebook post a day (pushing it already), no hair stylists under any circumstances
That alone will cut out like 75% of the nutjob women in the South, at least

Agree 100%. However, my last ex didn't show her crazy until well after that. She hid it well. And yeah, we talked of marriage. But man when that crazy it was off the fricking charts.
And the even crazier thing was, I stayed with her until about the 1.5 year mark.

Funny the shite we overlook when we are enamored or "in love" or just horny.

Yeah there is; wait until you've matured to marry.
A woman isn't going to make it to her mid-late 20s without some crazy showing up. At that point if you see it and don't care you know what you're signing up for.
