If we want to correctly blame Boomers for something, blame Clinton for destroying the US manufacturing base with NAFTA.
The biggest thing people are blaming boomers for is their “just do like I did” attitude for everything. It’s an absurd comparison.

Thats funny b/c I dont a single one that says that.
I tell them not to do what I did, actually.
Now, I do tell them to have a strong work ethic and dont blame anyone else for your problems,
The world don't want to hear about the labor pains, they just want to see the baby.

Our first house was 1350/sq foot for a family of 4 and basically a trailer on a slab It was an hour commute to work too, but we could afford it.
When you go back and think about it, those are some of the best days. That grind to get out and move on. It doesn’t seem like it at the time.

It was decent. Never had a single problem with anything the entire 15 years I lived there.
I was the only white person on my street when I graduated college. If you don’t get into anyone’s business typically you get left alone because you live there.
I also would grill in the front yard and invite people to eat so maybe that helped but overall don’t start nothing won’t be nothing.
Most people, even criminals, don’t shite where they eat.
Kill everyone with kindness, it works.

We are still the #2 manufacturing country by total volume and have a very high per capita output. No country can boast the same combination.
We're a manufacturing powerhouse.

just go get another job. I know it’s foreign to you 90s and up babies.
How did you do this? What type of company did you leave and where did you go?
My parents are boomers, didn’t have much when they married, and pinched pennies while raising a family of 5. They always taught me the value of a dollar. They did it working as teachers.
I am a teacher and find myself wanting out because I am overworked and underpaid. Aside from blaming school admin, it’s nobody’s fault. I have to explain to my parents that the demand has gone up, inflation is real, and it’s all outpacing what I make. Teaching used to be a respected profession, but a lot has changed. I am making ends meet as a divorced dad with a one year old daughter. I don’t have a ton in savings, but I will get a nice retirement from the state and have two supplemental retirement funds going as well.
I have one streaming service, only grab fast food if I have a coupon, and try to entertain myself for free. I lucked into a house that was partially inherited. Even with that, a paid off vehicle, and no student loans, it’s a struggle. I protest my property taxes every year.
I am trying to find a second job and actively looking for a better paying career. Hell, in the Fall, I don’t even have time for a second gig. I’ve been to hell and back the last couple of years, so I’d laugh at someone telling me to pull myself up.

Feel better now?

Nah man not at all. The insults and insensitivity of some random guy on the internet from 3 days ago has really fricked my week all up. Between crying about that, complaining to my boss about expecting me to produce some results, and my wife beating me up it's been a rough week so far. Your verbal assault was really the worst part of the week so far though.
Thanks for checking bro. I'm totes struggling big.

Speaking about $10 payments when we’re talking hundreds of thousands of dollars just shows how out of touch you are with the current situation
I had a funny dialogue with a young boomer a few years back, somewhat tangential to this. Wealthy DINK couple, we were talking about spending too much on vacations.
She tells me a story about a meeting they had with their financial advisors when the stock market crashed and financial crisis hit in 08-09. These are people both execs for Fortune 50, millions in options. Financial advisor lays out the math on the hit and possible rebound, stresses the need to cut expenses and deploy some of their cash flows into investments. She says the first thing that popped out of her mouth was cutting the cable and Starbucks.
Financial advisor says, I was thinking you could cut out a few of these $20,000 vacations you’re taking every month.

Dang. TD is the wrong place for a teacher to air it our because the OT hates teachers and nurses for some reason, but man that stinks. Sounds like you live a pretty simple life but teachers are just too underpaid to really get ahead.
