re: The worst part of someone dying is that you can’t talk to them anymore

I call my dead old man’s phone once monthly. The guy who took his number doesn’t show much interest in replacing him.

I mean, you kinda can. Depending on the relationship, you can imagine the things you’d say and their reaction or vice versa. Not always obviously.

I regularly have dreams about my late parents. Both died when they were elderly so they had long, full lives. I’ll be talking to them, usually at the house where I grew up, then I’ll realize that they aren’t supposed to be there. I think it’s their way of telling me that they are okay.

I love when I see my Mom or Dad in a dream! It's been a while but I used to see the most amazing world, universe, I have seen the most insane, incredible things, places. Now that I'm in my late 60s (still feel 20, except after using the weed eater) and I have had a lot of friends who are gone, a few were like brothers, sometimes I drive and I talk to them and I cry my brains out but it feels so good and I pray I will see them all one day! Charlie was a great man and I spoke to him after he died.

When I’m feeling really down. I have a couple voicemails from my mom. They probably make me cry harder but it’s comforting to hear her voice.

Simple voice mails become prized possessions after someone passes. I am thinking everyone should leave such things in a safe place for those thst are left behind.

One thing I have found incredibly heartwarming is watching old videos of people that died just having a conversation with them. It feels weird doing it but the value after they are gone is amazing. I also keep a couple of phone messages from my wife's grandfather on my phone. Heck of a pick me up when having a bad day or missing him.

My brother and I messaged each other every day for years. When he passed away from cancer couple years ago I kept messaging him, telling him about my day and so forth. But Messenger froze his account after about a year. I can still read our past conversations though….

It may be worse when a parent gets dementia. Then your mom or dad looks and sounds like your mom or dad, but it's like you are talking to a stranger at times. I was the primary caregiver for my mom for about 8 years. Saw her a couple of days a week, called her every night. Kept wishing I could talk to my mom again, but only rarely got glimpses of who I remembered.
After she died, I called her number, the number our family had had for 60+ years, for a couple of days, then I transferred that number to my cell and took it over. No problem remembering my phone number.

I had that problem after losing my fiance. I kept picking up the phone and starting to dial his number and then it would hit me that he wouldn't answer. I started taking his mom out for lunch once a week. It was kind of the next best thing to being with him.

My dad has been dead 16 months and I still catch myself trying to call or text him.
