And quite frankly, it's the state's fault for refusing/ being unwilling to diversify the economy to include industries other than oil field, casino, and service.
Are you kidding me? The state was one of the best environments for attracting new businesses.
Everything was done to lure new business here.

I'm sick of people in LA bitching about low oil prices. The market has always been cyclical. My dad and grandparents got caught up in it in the 80's. How about accepting the fact that people in that industry get paid a premium due to the cyclical nature of the industry and save your damn money. I'm sick of being guilt tripped by people who want me to feel sorry for oil field workers who spend every dime they make. Learn your lessons. And quite frankly, it's the state's fault for refusing/ being unwilling to diversify the economy to include industries other than oil field, casino, and service.
Thanks Warren Buffett. This shite is getting just as old as people complaining about low oil.

I'm assuming you're referring to rig hands, operators, etc. They get paid a premium because of the dangers in the work place.
They are around a whole bunch of shite that can go boom at any time.
Me...I work in an office. I work in an office and make pipeline schedules bend to my company's needs. I get paid a premium because I'm fricking good at my job and my company is one of the best and largest in the industry.
Not because somewhere along the line my corporate leadership decided they should pay me a buncha money because one day there might be some lean times.

Then where are they? Name these diversified businesses moving/ itching to move into this state.
Why is the unemployment rate so high? Why is there, what, one, fortune 500 company in the state? Why do college graduates still leave for Houston and Dallas? Need I go on?

Y'all some damn buzz kills. I was just hoping to have a fun thread about cheap pizza rolls or some shite.

Airlines are still charging bag fees that were started by high gas prices way back when...
Just because the airlines publicly said gas prices was why they started charging for bags doesn't mean that is actually true.

Then they need to renege.

People get paid a premium for a variety of reasons.

I mostly am as they are the one's that tend to blow their money even when earning 8-10k a month.
Employees aren't paid premiums for one specific reason. You're a good employee, probably educated and able to produce things that others can't. You get a premium for that. But you also get a premium for the cyclical nature of the industry. The volatile nature off the industry has a premium pay due to the uncertainty involved in the industry as a whole.

Great questions. It isn't a "if you build it" type scenario.
Lots of businesses relocated.
IBM to Baton Rouge was a result of this business climate. What was sacrificed to get a company like IBM is debatable no doubt.
To say La didn't position itself properly is ignorant. Why companies didn't come is numerous. Uneducated populus, corrupt officials, shitty reputation...
Maybe one of the many smaller businesses could become the next fortune 500 given the right climate and opportunity.

Other industries are more profitable and able to invest in capital expansion/enhancements.

IBM only cares about BR because they can pay low wages here.
Hope the OP enjoys the new taxes he will receive in addition to his cheaper soft drinks.

in 2015, flight fares decreased more than any other time in 20 years.
that $3 increase is still cheaper than we have had in over a decade.

Our economy has diversified in LA but we did it by collecting taxes on oil money and giving that money to other economic segments.

I also picked up a gallon of milk for $1.99, and some boxes of Cheerios and Cinnamon Toast Crunch for $1.49 a piece. 32oz Gatorades were 68 CENTS a piece.
