What's the closest college to where you are?

Well at least she'd be able to pay for college in no time.
Better hope she doesn’t dance at an OT frequented place. She’ll starve.

Since when did a college education ever become the responsibility of parents anyway?

I’m banking on the military academies for my 3 boys

I don't blame you.
The cost of college is insane nowadays. I was in college in the late 80's. My parents paid for a good bit of it, but I always had a job to pay my living expenses and got loans to pay for my flying (LA Tech) and paid them off myself after I graduated.
Going into debt to pay for your kids college is not necessary or smart.
Sad to say, but you need to take care of your retirement before their education.

There are scholarship opportunities, and they can work jobs during school. Plenty of people have done it before.

I bet your kids despise both of u.

Some of the most successful people I know put themselves through college without parents help.

As long as the kids are smart with money and can manage loans to earn a worthwhile degree, this is not the worst decision. It seems tough, but also forces the children to make financial based decisions. Earn a scholarship, do well in school, be smart with their money.
Student loans are cheap and easy debt. It sucks and is a burden, but it’s fairly easy in terms of leniency, etc.

We crunched numbers all day Saturday and it would just eat too much of our retirement.
Yeah, I mean it would suck to have to sacrifice a few years of retirement for the betterment of your children or something...

Sounds very all or nothing. Not even help with certain parts of expenses?

Did y'all's parents pay for your college education?
Mine did, and that's why I'm paying for my kids' college.
Mine couldn't afford to give me anything for college, but my wife and I are fortunate to have been able to support all of our kids. The last one graduates next year and we are looking forward to a big increase in disposable income come June!

Plenty of people get loans. Help them with rent and gas money.

God I hope so. Would make the guilt much more bearable when we have to kick them out of the house.
