I have some 10 odd packages being delivered to me over the past week. All Amazon, FedEx, and UPS deliveries tracked and were delivered exactly on time. Some have involved using a private carrier then handing it off to USPS. For most of those plus the sole USPS packages once the USPS gets their hands on them it's like the tracking barely exists and they just show up when they show up. It's incredibly frustrating to watch multiple other "competitors" have very little issue with similar services and then the USPS which is basically totally devoid of functional customer service or the ability to correct their issues. Things get picked up by them and then dissapear for god knows how long only to some day eventually make it to my porch randomly.

They've sucked for about 10 years. They just aren't equipped to handle the amount of parcel shipping that they see now.

And it's only getting worse.

It's infuriating to rely on a carrier that you know has a history of losing stuff when you are shipping expensive or important items. It's even worse when you can't track anything because their back end system is complete crap. If you don't have visibility over where those parcels are located, they probably don't either.

I wish I could blacklist USPS on my e-commerce accounts.

Jerry Seinfeld bit on the USPS:

quote:

Why don’t we update some of these terms that we use in the tech world, like “e-mail”? Why is the world “mail” even in “e-mail”? Is there any similarity between e-mail and whatever the hell is going on in the Postal Service? One of them operates on a digital, fiber-optic, hyper-speed network. The other is this dazed and confused, distant branch of the Cub Scouts out there, just… …bumbling around the streets in embarrassing shorts and jackets with meaningless patches and victory medals. Driving four miles an hour, 20 feet at a time, on the wrong side of a mentally handicapped Jeep. They always have this emotional, financial meltdown every three and half years that their business model from 1630 isn’t working anymore. “How are we going to catch up?”

I cannot understand how a 21st-century information system based on licking, walking, and a random number of pennies… is struggling to compete. They always push the postmaster general out on TV to explain their difficulties. He’s all freaked out, rings under his eyes, no shave, pullin’ all-nighters. “We can’t keep it up much longer. Looks like we’re gonna have to go up another penny on the stamps!” We’re sittin’ at home, “No, dude, relax. We don’t even know how much a stamp is anyway. Forty-eight, 53, 61… Make it a buck, you’re gonna get there. If it ends up you got some money left over, buy yourself some pants and a real car.” I would say to the Postal Service, “If you actually wanted to be helpful to us, just open the letters, read ’em, and e-mail us what it says! We’ll give you a penny for each one you do… …since that seems to be a lot of money in your world.”

Maybe if we go to Narnia and find Mr Tumnus, we’ll discover that goat bastard has our packages in addition to the missing socks.

I've had good success with their customer service. If you're package hasn't arrived 14 days after it shipped, contact them (by email) and someone from your local post office will likely get in touch. I've done this twice. First time, the local contact was an email, with the package going from last checked in at Memphis a week prior to magically delivered the very next day following my email.

The second time pretty much worked the same way. "Lost" after arriving/leaving Memphis, then magically arriving in Baton Rouge and delivered the following day or so. That time I think I got a call from my local post office after it was delivered.

Ordered two things late last week shipped by USPS. Both were predicted to arrive by today. The package from MO arrived yesterday, and the second one coming from UT appears to be lost in the "in transit" ether.

It's run by the government. What do you expect, excellence?

Weird that these problems were somewhat uncommon prior to 2020 when a new Postmaster General took over and a pandemic hit the world.

Well, now, don't you tell me to smile
You stick around I'll make it worth your while
My number's beyond what you can dial
Maybe it's because we're so versatile
Style, profile, I said
It always brings me back when I hear, "ooh, child!"

I guess I'm lucky then because prior to 2020, I only had a few issues with them.

Don't forget to include that the Postal Workers' Union supported one candidate rather than the other in your scenario.

No doubt that the pandemic has helped contribute to these issues, via worker shortages.
