My laptop is on 24-7 (sleep mode when not in use). How does a laptop cook itself simply by being left on?

I believe I used some of my points to get mine a few years back. If that's still an option.

Maybe the TSA got some info that you are a statue loving white supremacist?

Go ahead and file a complaint. Your name will be added to their list. Getting thru security will become a real joy.

Why would you check a laptop?

It's $85. Global Entry is $100 which includes TSA Pre.

They went through my backpack, opened up my laptop which woke it up and I guess it didn't turn off

How does a laptop cook itself just on the battery. It will eventually go to sleep or the battery went dead. Did you watch them turn it on and turn it off?

If you don't close the laptop correctly and have it in a sleeve it can get insanely hot. I actually got second degree burns from handling my company laptop one time because some paper kept it from fully closing.

OK. You're supposed to take your laptop out of the backpack and put it in a bin. You are the one that broke protocol here. Laptops always go in a bin by themselves.

Do you travel much because this is something you should know.

Tell them to pay up or you'll be back with a bomb. Maybe toss an "Allah" or two in during your rant for flavor.

If this was a checked bag, you should have removed the battery beforehand. If it was carry-on, why didn't you just turn it off yourself when you saw them inspect it? Either way, you are to blame in this situation, not TSA.

Why on earth would you leave your laptop in a checked bag?

It will take a long time, but I got TSA/Customs to refund me for a pair of running shoes. On the way back from Costa Rica, they left my (and a bunch of other peoples) bags wide open and my running shoes were missing. I filed a claim and they reimbursed me with little evidence other than the fact that the customs/TSA in Miami sucks balls.
