There have to be some tests to know whether it was stillborn or not.

she murdered her child. This is rather cut and dry.

guess not to the jury, acquitted, what she was found guilty of, in my state, is six months to two years and a fine, first offender likely gets probation?

Called it. I knew that stillborn excuse was a smart defense. It’s plausible under the circumstances, it makes the defendant look like a victim, and it’s really difficult to prove that it didn’t happen that way. I can understand why a jury would not be willing to say that she definitely murdered her child beyond any reasonable doubt.

The jury that heard a lot more evidence, or lack thereof, than anyone here and came back with a verdict pretty quickly.

Had TV on in the background and before they televised the verdict some talking lawhead said the prosecution didn't provide much if any evidence that clearly showed her guilt of the charges.

The stillborn defense definitely provides enough reasonable doubt not to convict. I still don't think I believe it, but I couldn't vote guilty

It’s also plausible that she was afraid of what her parents would do to her and how she would be judged at school if they found out she was pregnant, so she attempted to hide the pregnancy. Her attempts at doing so likely included poor nutrition, leading to the child coming out stillborn, causing her to once again panic and bury it. In this hypo, she was hoping to conceal the pregnancy until the baby was born and then give it up for adoption before her parents found out about the whole thing. Not a smart plan, but one that’s believable for a dumb teenage girl who’s obsessed with her image. I’m not saying that’s what happened, but it’s plausible enough that a jury could believe it being possible she didn’t murder her child on purpose.

It's now legal to kill babies, but you better have a proper burial.

My one disappointment from high school is that I never banged a cheerleader.
