$1.28 an hour in tips, on average, down 7% from the $1.38 an hour they made a year prior
I hate the way they manipulate statistics like this to create headlines and no one reads the story much less checks the statistics we all just read the headline and start debating

I tipped a waitress 20 on a $40 bill last night in the hopes she might want to touch my weaner with her mouth. She didn’t offer and I didn’t ask. But I took my shot.

Will we have to tip robots when they start serving us?

Man up. When they flip that ipad around with the 18-20-22% tip choice, Whack that "No tip" spot and don't even blink.

I went to an automatic car wash the other day & theres a girl out front who's only job is to run your card in a machine that you could just as easily do it yourself. It asked if I wanted to tip her. For swiping a card. Shes not even washing the fricking car.

Live in Minneapolis and the absurd shite I see on bills up here is ridiculous.
"Livable wage fee"
"Employee Healthcare fee"
Some places just straight up have 20% as a gratuity fee without asking, then put a tipping line on your bill for any extra you want to give.

The “it’s just gonna ask you a question” line has gotten so tired and cringe.

I tipped my server 100 bucks on 54 bucks worth of pizza the other night.
She wasnt a great server, but she made my son laugh and it's christmas.

I called an order not a restaurant last night for pick up…. Lady said we will take payment over the phone …. Gave card info …. Your total is xxxxx, would you like to leave gratuity?…..mind races for a second then I realize I’m calling in a pick up order that I have to walk in and bring to my car myself ….. no tip please….. it will be ready in 10-15 minutes. I could hear the disgust in her voice.
Man that’s brave. You probably got a little something extra in your order.

Jokes on them, I've just become a better cook and maybe go out 30% of what I did pre-covid. Service is absolute dog shite in most places, even nicer joints, and at this point I'm willing to put my food against anywhere charging less than 30 dollars a plate.

Good. When you expect a tip no matter what, the service generally reflects that. So the effort to do a good job isn’t there. Which makes people tip even less.
Happens with the big table auto gratuity too.
I was recently at a dinner with a group of about 12, at a somewhat nice place. I think the cheapest entree was in the $25 range. Anyway, they never came to clear the table after the apps. To the point we were having to hand those plates to the server as he put down the entree plates just to make room. Not like the entrees came out quickly either. Plenty of time to do a quick sweep.
Someone in the party is in the "industry" and said they have no reason to earn that tip, so their time an effort is being put into the tables that they do need to.

I hate it so much. I ordered a pizza on an App the other day and it asked for a tip. I certainly don’t feel obligated but I get paranoid that they’ll do something to my food if I don’t do at least a little. People who have alone time with my food and a grudge for being stiffed are a scary combination. So I’m forced to comply.

Why does the cashier at izzos deserve a tip but not the back of house staff?

I would absolutely support federal law removing the minimum wage exemption and prohibiting the requesting of tips on receipts and point-of-sale devices.

I am exceptionally disappointed in where Minneapolis has gone the last 5 years or so. I was there in 2019 for a few days and thought it might be cool to go back again one summer when I want to get away from sweating my balls off in Louisiana, but frick that place.

Man, frick that. You should have said I’ll tip when I get there. Pissing off food handlers before you get your food has way too much downside. .

I could be wrong, but I believe tips at these places are shared amongst staff.

It was interesting, in Colombia (come at me, nurse). There was a 10% voluntary gratuity on every check. You could decline, accept or offer more. They never took your card, just brought the card swiper over. 10% seemed to be expected, but you could decline. The service was outstanding. The servers were en pointe. You do have to wave them over, once you are done. It seems they don't want to bother you.

I’m not a fan for the opposite reason. I almost always tip 20% and when ‘above and beyond’, like to recognize that. The requests often cap off at 20% and it’s a pain to customize and submit a larger tip.

Same here man. Since COVID, prices have went up & quality gone waaay down. I dont trust what goes on these kitchens that are extremely short staffed. Just started meal prepping. Way healthier & less expensive.
