An old lady at the College Football Hall of Fame today had a service dog. It may have weighed 5 pounds.

People are entitled these days. They will push any ruleor law to the max and beyond. Never mind if they actually are eligible. See also hanging handicapped tags.

Yep, saw a lady park in a handicap spot at the gym then walk in and hop on the treadmill.

I had to recently cancel a surgery because this crazy lady patient had just eaten a Big Mac combo before coming in. The nurse told me she was upset about the cancellation and wanted to speak to me directly. She also was upset she wouldn't be allowed to bring her "service dog" into the operating room with her and insisted this was against the law. I had been warned by a colleague that she had this "service dog" that was basically and untrained mutt with a vest she probably purchased at a flea market.
So I go into the tiny consultation room and there is this terribly dirty dog with a dirty vest. He proceeds to claw at my knee for the next 5 minutes before I can't take it anymore and leave, politely of course. I agree it's an epidemic and out of hand.

have no issue with and fully approve of well behaved dogs in public. Annoying or poorly trained dogs need to be kept at home.
Same rules can be applied to kids and dogs. If your kids are well-behaved and understand how to act in public, then I don't mind them at all.
If your kids are little shits, untrained and don't understand how to behave in public, then keep their asses out of public until you can do better to teach them. (This of course doesn't apply to babies. Trust me, those parents are just as tired of it as you are. Of course, they shouldn't go full retard and bring them to a movie theater or a really nice restaurant.)

Its the fault of you entitled pet owners.

Fear not, OP, service monkeys will soon replace all the dogs anyway. LINK

Honest question: What benefits does a service animal provide to a diabetic?
Posted on 3/5/17 at 1:29 pm to OleWarSkuleAlum
I have a family member going through a divorce. The spouse has kept the service dog and refuses to give it up. What can be done? Will my family member get the dog back at property settlement?
ETA : it's for Parkinson's and diabetes. He's also a combat vet from Vietnam. The dog opens doors and shite. The spouse is just fat and lazy and claims need for the dog also.

quote:
Diabetic Alert Dogs are trained to alert diabetic owners in advance of low (hypoglycemia) or high (hyperglycemia) blood sugar events before they become dangerous. That way their handlers can take steps to return their blood sugar to normal such as using glucose sweets or taking insulin. A Diabetic Alert Dog is specifically trained to react to the chemical change produced by blood sugar highs and lows. Diabetic Alert Dogs can provide emotional security and a sense of balance for individuals and for those who have loved ones with diabetes. They can help you lead a more confident and independent lifestyle.
quote:
How does a Diabetic Alert Dog work?
Our bodies are a unique makeup of organic chemicals - all of which have very specific smells. Low and high blood sugar levels, or hypoglycemia/ hyperglycemia, release chemicals in the body that have a distinct odor that is undetectable by humans. Our training process positively motivates these dogs to alert when these odors are detected.

What's wrong with it? I mean besides the retarded name?
Posted on 3/5/17 at 1:39 pm to OleWarSkuleAlum
LOL Great Danes are dumber than shite. They'd make for a horrible service dog
Posted on 3/5/17 at 1:40 pm to lsunurse
The smelling makes sense; however, I imagine that we can make an electronic sensor that can provide same benefit.
The emotional and security aspect is a bit more vague and more susceptible to abuse.

In AK, courts now treat dogs more like children instead of property In divorce settlements.

This dog is a medical tool and the spouse is withholding. It makes no sense the court allowed this.
