re: The Service Dog Epidemic is Out of Hand

im with you on this one. The majority of service dogs walking around are not actually for true PTSD. I love animals as much as the next person, but the whole service animal thing is being taken to a whole new extreme in the past few years. There are some great SSRI's or benzos that could help some of these mental disorders, but I understand not everyone wants to be dependent on a medication. It just seems like so many people are abusing the "service dog" schtick right now

PTSD is going to be the new ADD/ADHD.

The original post was simply "vets". Scruffy has no issue if it is for legitimate PTSD. That is an actual medical condition.
Original post was meant for PTSD vets
I would like to see dogs have some training. I would love my mini dachshund to solve my "anxiety" but he would bite anybody that moved lol

Anxiety is a fast growing one. Everyone has anxiety nowadays. Children are being overmedicated at every turn.

This service dog shite has to stop.
Why? Why does it bother you so much? Unless you know what's going on with that person, I'm pretty sure you're in no position to say whether they need it or not.

Those 2 pictures are gold.
First pic: woman realizes shes busted for being nuts (you can see it in her eyes)
Second pic: shields the dog as if to protect him from reality.
Priceless.
Lady has problems. Dressing like a teenager is one of them. Skinny jeans and Chuck Taylors? Let is go baby....

Anxiety seems to be the one Im seeing the most right now. A lot of people dont understand that stress/worry/nervousness does not equal an anxiety disorder.

Are dogs not welcome in Starbucks?

If you aren't blind or deaf you don't need a special fricking dog.
Or with some kind of disability I huess

PTSD has always been around. We've just always had absolute shite for mental health services for our vets that we send off to see some shite that psychologically would be tough for anyone to deal with and with the stigma that going to the therapy held what was there was rarely used. Especially with our Vietnam vets.
As far as these animals, there needs to be stronger restrictions to acquiring a service dog. Period.
That said, I work with a parent who has one that was paid for through an organization geared towards vets and it's pretty badass. The guy has had over 15 surgeries due to damage to his spine and pelvis from an IED blast and the dog assists with picking things up for him, opening doors, etc.

That is awesome! Dogs are so impressive with what all they can be taught.

Very true statement. Im not done with school yet so Im not on the other side of the spectrum yet, but it seems like a lot of physicians are very willing to hand it out. Maybe its just a misconception though

I know a SJW who got service dog certification so she can take it on trips with her so she doesn't have to pay for boarding. Complete BS. Working the system, as usual.
