quote:

Almost everywhere, the most educated women are least likely to have children. And the highest rates of childlessness are found among women who pursue degrees in non-vocational subjects. Researchers at Stockholm University have found that 33% of Swedish women born in the late 1950s who studied the social sciences did not have children, compared with 10% of primary-school teachers and just 6% of midwives. It may be that teaching and midwifery attract women who strongly desire children, or that these jobs offer more parent-friendly hours and conditions. But the difference is probably also down to job security. A trained teacher can expect to find a stable job at a younger age than a trained anthropologist can.

quote:

In liberal Anglo-Saxon countries, though, middle-aged childless people appear to be slightly happier than parents. The same demographers find that young parents are gloomier than childless youngsters.

quote:

Nobody knows whether childlessness will rise further. It has been going up in most European countries, but not all: the rate has fallen in Switzerland, for example. One possibility is that childlessness will veer up and down, mirroring the economic cycle. As the average age of marriage rises and couples push childbearing into their mid- or even late 30s, they become increasingly vulnerable to shocks. A bad recession or a mortgage-lending squeeze will encourage couples to pause—and, because many now give themselves only a narrow window before their fertility drops, some will be knocked out of childbearing altogether.

Our population is being brainwashed so that smart people don’t have children and reproduce, and stupid people reproduce a lot. This will increase the size of the lower class and reduce the size of the upper (ruling) class, so the upper class in the future will split the same portion of wealth, but everyone will have more with fewer people to cut in

My wife and I will have them later, but want to have fun in our marriage now just the two of us.

But even if we didn't, it would be our decision and our consequences.

I don't really believe you're in your mid 20s like you say you are. I think you're really a Kafka alter

They should be taking care of their kids and doing Pinterest projects while their husbands are out on the rigs.

Kids are expensive. I'm 29 and won't be starting a family until my mid to late 30s because of student loans, housing costs, and how expensive it is to raise kids.

I think I'm gonna have to start dating women less than like 24 exclusively. Once they get put out to pasture at 25 and get into weird shite like traveling and cats they don't wanna have kids til they're like 30 and I'm not gonna have some weakass kid because his moms eggs were spoiled

Main reason is cost of living has gone up disproportionately to wages/inflation.

What's funny is the same people who will roll their eyes at millenials' complaints about the ridiculously high cost of education will then turn around and give them shite for deciding not to make another huge financial investment in having children.

ETA: For the record, I am an educated millennial with a kid. It was a big conversation with my wife before we decided to take the plunge, though. And we got married without promising to have kids or anything.

If people don't want children, they don't want children. Some people know that they wouldn't be good parents and choose not to try. More should realize this, then maybe there would be less abused and murdered children in this country.

Others have hereditary problems that they don't want to pass on. Some just simply don't want children and that's ok too.

We have a son, but we're not having any more. We want to give him the best life possible. We were both only children as well and we didn't mind.

this is fair, but millennials also have a much higher standard of living than previous generations. Bigger houses, more cars, etc.
