The "real story" of what happened with the Iowa Reporter and old tweets

If you don't remember, this is the dbag reporter who dug up old tweets of the kid who raised all that money for Iowa's Children's Hospital. According to the article, it was everyone elses fault he got fired but his own. SMH, I guess the word accountability means nothing now a days.

At first, it was the student who raised the money himself, Carson King's fault:
Then, it was the Editor of the Des Moines Register's fault:
Now, it was the owner of the papers fault, due to a lack of a union:
And last. but certainly not least, it was Barstool Sport's fault:
TL;DR: it was the world's fault, not his own

At first, it was the student who raised the money himself, Carson King's fault:
quote:
In his statement, King included a more recent tweet of his that denounced racism. I recognized this tweet when I read it later—I had sent it to him on Facebook Messenger, to show him that I believed the crude tweets I’d found were not fully representative of his beliefs.
I don’t believe that King set out to implicate me, but because he preempted my forthcoming profile, people believed that I intended to impugn his character. Immediately after he released his statement, angry messages began to come in to the Register’s Facebook page.
Then, it was the Editor of the Des Moines Register's fault:
quote:
At the request of an editor at the Register, I tweeted an apology: I had not “held myself to the same standard the Register held others.” But I immediately regretted the statement. They were words I did not believe—I was never in the business of holding others to any kind of a moral standard.
Now, it was the owner of the papers fault, due to a lack of a union:
quote:
I wish Gannett would have taken into further consideration how I’d represented myself as an employee. But rather than trust the character I’d established in the newsroom and work with me to help address the anger, misunderstanding, and misinformation in the community, they vindicated bad-faith attacks and allowed disingenuous arguments to influence their decisions.
There was no union at the Register. Had I been a union member, I believe I would have been able to more effectively advocate for myself.
In the end, I believe I was scapegoated by a corporation trying to preserve its bottom line.
And last. but certainly not least, it was Barstool Sport's fault:
quote:
The death threats were frightening. But even more hurtful were the attacks on my character and humanity. These were propelled both by ordinary readers seemingly ignorant of the facts and, more insidiously, by reactionary journalists and the outlets that published them, specifically right-wing demagogue Mike Cernovich, Breitbart, and Barstool Sports. Local television stations as well as national platforms such as CNN and the Washington Post helped to spread the false but palatable narrative established by these outlets—that I had sought to vilify King for his tweets.
TL;DR: it was the world's fault, not his own

Many years ago, when the writing level in Playboy was high, they had a monthly feature called the "Blameless Society." It would list about 10 events where someone did something and then frivolously blamed something else.
It criticized both liberal and conservatives too.

The actual real story is that the reporter hates cops and hated that the kid aspired to work in law enforcement, so he tried to ruin any chance of that ever happening.

I included a brief mention of the offensive tweets and King’s apology toward the end of my profile. It was a small moment placed in context at the end of a positive story. The tweets were part of a narrative of growth, maturity, and compassion—not an accusatory, “gotcha” moment.
But why mention them at all?
Does every article about Bill Clinton need to have a footnote that he was impeached and got his dick sucked in the oval office?

Well I had fogotten him and now I hate him more. He's the perfect modern click me "journalist".

Why did you just plagiarize an entire Barstool article?

Um isn’t that what you did by digging up tweets?

Ultimately it's the media's (social too) fault for spreading a story about a something a high school kid said and holding him to an impossible standard.

This "reporter" did an amazing job. Never has one person done so much to unite the U of I and ISU fanbases as this guy. As far as his "research" why did he feel compelled to keep digging in Carson King's social media history until he found a "gotch ya"? Why wasn't going back say 3, 4, or even 5 years enough? He had to go back 6 years to find the posts that he did. Seems excessive.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but wasn't the poor kid just commenting on Daniel Tosh in those "racist" tweets?

The reporter makes no mention of his contact with Budweiser. If you look at the timeline of events, it looks like he reached out to Budweiser to comment on the young mans old tweets prior to reaching out to the young man for comment.
That’s not being a reporter, that’s being a jealous SJW loon

I love when moronic liberals use this line. It shows their true beliefs. They just can't seem to understand the whole fricking point of a corporation is to preserve and grow the bottom line. If you don't like that then create your own business. GTFO!

This kid has no concept of personal responsibility. Typical commie.
