I knew some Secret Service EOD guys. They called Radio Shack “Bomber’s Paradise”. It was the go-to place to buy IED components.
Meh. You had to take the bad with the good when it came to Radio Shack.

I remember going to Radio Shack and Heathkit with my dad, it was always a fun trip to walk around in there and look at all the stuff they had. Later I used Heathkit to rebuild some speakers for my stereo that I used to be proud of.

I used to buy ALOT of parts and pieces from RS! When they showed going out of business sale, I bought two old school television antennas along with alot of other things.
One for camp and one for house. They both still work and well worth the $19 each I paid. That was around 2014-15.

Its eye opening that the price of somethings are nearly unchanged. For example I scanned through the 1978 catalog and the price for a radio controlled toy car is nearly the same that you could buy one at Walmart today. While the median household income in 1978 was $15,060 and today is $87,460. A real purchasing power gain of 12.4%. It is just interesting how some products have drastically increased in cost and others have stayed close to the same over the last 50 years or so.

Purchased a RatShack soldering station in the late 80s, still sits on my workbench and used regularly.
