It's city-wide.

And the last time I had to pay it was at the Ross on mission and 4th

I actually agree with much of your post. In my first post, I stated that there are many positives to living in the state... More positives than negatives. For me, the biggest negatives are the cost of living and additional government regulations. Homes in San Francisco, San Diego or any of the beautiful beach communities are prohibitively expensive. Yes, the salaries are higher, but I don't think it offsets the cost of living. I personally don't think the people are as friendly as they are in other places, but I can certainly find enough people to be friends with in a state of nearly 40 million people.

I think the plastic bag law, or at least the public debate, dates back to the early to mid-2000s.

It's origin was as an incentive to use reusuable grocery bags. Apparently, the lightweight plastic bags aren't recyclable or commercially viable to be recycled. There was quite a bit of opposition initially, because it was viewed as a regressive tax that would hit the poor the hardest. I think it was only 2 or 3 cents back then.

Employees at businesses like grocery store cashiers, drive up window people, gas station attendants, etc who couldn't clearly speak and/or understand (my) English made me absolutely crazy.

In 6 years living out there, I never had an employee of a business I went to not speak english. Not once.

Actually, they are. More people are moving to Texas from Cali than a y other state. Don't get me wrong though, I have a tremendous fondness for the state.

I didn't say they weren't speaking English. I said I couldn't understand them and/or they couldn't understand me! It happened much more frequently in SoCal, but occasionally in the Bay Area.

It's about 1.5 hours from San Francisco... That's all I really got.

I see. Most convenience store type workers I've run across are the same way from many other parts of the country too though.

Why do people on this board love San Diego and San Francisco so much? But hate Los Angeles so much....

LA is probably so much different than people imagine. It's much more crowded, dirty, and non-white than what many expect. And even the whites are mostly Jewish, Russian, Armenian, Persian, etc. Except by the beaches and it costs a fortune to live there.

Most likely they were illegals working the drive through Taco shops but other than that what you're saying is ridiculous

I think many agree that L.A. proper is terrible except for the nightlife. The surrounding beach areas (manhattan, hermosa, etc) are awesome though.

Yeah I know quite a few people that have left California for Texas. Mostly engineers and technical people. It's very hard to live what most of America would consider a middle class, suburban lifestyle while making a middle class or even upper middle class income in coastal California.

Regarding language, before e-verify most fast food workers except those at the cash register spoke little to no English.

And mountains. And as far as topography goes, mountains and beaches make a huge difference.

The people of California vote for Nancy Pelosi. That tells me all I need to know about the folks in California.
