I would love to say it gets better, but it doesnt.
I had my first kid in 1997, the caboose is 7. I feel like I have raised kids for my entire life. Dont misread this, I wouldnt want any changes, but only a dishonest person would say they wouldnt want a break here and there.
School starting back is kind of a good thing, the routine settles everyone back in.

Senn Delaney, and the concept of be here now. Work when you’re at work and the be a father/husband when you’re at home.
Remember the Pareto rule, 20% of your time gets 80% of your results. Pick what you want to succeed at and give all your attention to that one problem. If you say yes to something, you are also saying no to something else.

Huh?
So adults aren't allowed to have any fun time at all? Ever?

Posting during work hours is frowned upon, cube monkey. Get back to work.

I like being on the go and constantly challenged. I get bored quickly if I'm not.
That's great but the key is to stay busy doing things you enjoy. What you want to do, not constantly doing what others need or want.
I'm recently single and absolutely loving the freedom again. I stay 'on the go' by filling my free time doing endurance sports I enjoy. Or if I feel like it, I can drink and watch TV all evening. It's pretty nice.

The only thing that has led to your current situation are YOUR decisions and choices and they are the only thing that can get you out of it.
You chose your career, your wife and whatever possessions and toys are requiring you and your wife to work so hard. Make a plan for something different and DO IT if it bothers you that much.
And being an adult does NOT mean you have to suffer. I chose a career where I had to work hard but it allowed for time for me to play hard and it rewarded hard work. Corporate America has become the cliche mocked in Office Space and is not the place for happiness.

It did for us in many ways. School bus picks up and drops off on our street, multiple parents in our immediate area to carpool with for after school activities, and deciding to allow each kid to only have one after school activity each semester has greatly reduced our stress.
It also helps that me and the wife both have very flexible job situations.
