"The Machine" in Alabama...

Is "The Machine" still in existence at Alabama and does it have any influence beyond the university?

It's basically mere formalities and people wanting to feel sacred by being included with little true political power or even understanding of how it's supposed to work, although they can still rally the troops on really big issues.

It's power outside Tuscaloosa has dwindled a good bit but there are still lots of politicians and CEOs directly connected to the machine.
