re: The Lyrics To The Prince Song 'Sister' Is Pretty Insane

quote:
Prince had three half-sisters growing up in Sharon, Norrine and Lorna, who were all a result of his father, John L. Nelson’s, first marriage to Vivian Howard. Norrine was born in 1942, which means that she was 32 when Prince was 16, which adds a level of legitimacy to lyrics that, at first listen, sound farcical and written to be deliberately provocative. With the latter, of course, being an extremely probable outcome, it’s likely that The Purple One was merely attempting to discover just how far he can test the boundaries

I was only sixteen but I guess that's no excuse
My sister was thirty-two, lovely, and loose
She don't wear no underwear
She says it only gets in her hair
And it's got a funny way of stoppin' the juice

From what I've heard, he doesn't have an older sister.
Either someone else wrote the song and gave it to Prince to sing. However I've heard Prince was a stickler for having pure creative control over all his music, so he likely had very people writing for him if any.
He wrote this song from the perspective of a friend or somebody he told him their stories.
Or Prince made it all up in the head because he's just a weird frick.

I’d probably go with this. He just liked the wordplay and wrote a messed up story

In total, then, Prince had eight siblings: one full sister, three half-sisters, and four half-brothers. Two of those siblings -- a half-brother and a half-sister -- died before Prince. That still leaves six relatives with claims to Prince’s estate -- at present.

under Minnesota law his estate would be split equally between his parents’ other children, including his half-siblings.

The 1980s called and wanted their joke back.

Oh...so THIS is the song they chant at Alabama Football tailgates.

Yeah, well your dad called from the 1980’s too. He wants his cum back.

Since it was his half sister does that make it less weird?

My dead father wants his cum back from the 1980s? Thats weird. I was born in 1978.. Do you know the exact year in the 80s thus happened?

The grammar in the title gave me pause as well, but I believe it is correct. "Lyrics" in this case is singular since the OP is referring to the entire song. I think, someone more versed in grammar correct me.

No, lyrics here are plural, as a song is a collection of lyrics.
One line or stanza might be a lyric, but the entirety of it is plural. So, once again, OweO is wrong.
Had he said “the song, Sister”, then is would have been correct, but since the lyrics are the subject, and plural, are should have been used

I make my fair share of grammatical errors, most of the time its just from my half arse paying attention, but my title is grammatically correct.
