And?

They didn't like the ending. They are perfectly within their right to express how they feel.

Agreed. I personally didn't like the tap out as he is supposed to never give up, but he needed to take the L.

Take the L yes, but the guy wore a short to the ring that said Never Give Up. He has preached that to kids and fans his entire career.

So he ends it by giving up?

They thought it sucked because it was too subtle.

They wanted to show Cena symbolically retiring in the ring. Ok. But the cries crowd couldn't see it and it came off weird.

Better way to convey the same message in my opinion.

Long match. Lots of spots. Just like the one we had.

It finally goes outside the ring. Gunther is laying into Cena. Cena is fighting back but obviously tired. Ref is in the ring but not doing a ten count. He's looking around because he doesn't want it to end this way. Cole emphasizes the ref isn't counting Cena out. Finally the ref starts counting. Crowd begins to count -- pipe it in if you have to. Both men are up the ramp and hear the crowd. Both begin to run back to the ring, but Cena stops short and let's himself be count out while Gunther stands in the ring angry and screaming at Cena to keep fighting.

Cena smiles and waves to the crowd as he walks back to the curtain only to be met by everyone in the back that surrounds him and walks him back to the ring for his flowers.

Same symbolism but the crowd can see it and buy it. A little smile and quick tap left most people disappointed.

Was there. The atmosphere in the stadium was devastated he tapped. People were literally cursing HHH all the way out the stadium and to the metro.

Overall an awesome show but yeah the ending was kind of flat.

It would honestly be a smart move if this was by design to drum up some negative shock engagement, but after the whole heel cena and final boss fumble I think they are too incompetent to capitalize on true momentum.

Embrace the blurred kayfabe era by leaning into the real controversies, have HHH go heel mode and say he buried Cena on purpose and made him tap.

In a product that is so stale, corporatized and overly choreographed, they need to embrace the chaos.

So Cena gives up in the situation too? Then it sucks as well.

What do you think a voluntary retirement is?

I don't like the give up idea anyway, but if it has to be done, it can't be done while he's actively fighting. That betrays a 25 year character. The running back alongside Gunther gives him time to think and slow down and ask himself does he want to get back in the ring. He doesn't so...he stops.

It's big and obvious not a little smile no one sees and a quick tap.

It's obvious the smile was meant to his fans as a way of saying he isn't making me quit, I'm choosing to do it.

I would have just preferred him not quitting, Gunther losing his shite and powerbombing Cena 3 times in a row and pinning him.

Watching Triple H, a guy at the center of the infamous “Curtain Call” at MSG, talk about “time-honored traditions” in the wrestling business, really turns my stomach.

While I agree with the finish tonight, this entire retirement run was so fricked from the beginning. They blew a historic heel turn and redemption arc. Has been a completely horrible year for WWE man. Need this shite to improve asap

It's that bad voodoo for taking Mania from Nola after announcing it.

Thought it was a good ending. Idk what people are complaining about.

Idk what people expected from a retirement match. Do you really want to see Cena fight back and hit a few more attitude adjustments and win like you’ve seen 100x before? Lose on some weird DQ technicality? Is that really a meaningful last match?

I can see an argument for losing by pin (HBK-Flair style) but I still prefer how it ended. He accepts he can’t keep hustling and fighting anymore and just smiles and accepts he is done fighting.

I'm hoping with the retirement angle out of the way, they kind of hit reset going into the new year.

I wonder what dead legends the prince of Saudi is going to request for the Rumble this year.

Flair goes out eating a superkick.
Shawn goes out via tombstone.

Absolutely nobody hated those endings because of the finality of a pinfall and it was a huge emotional buildup - Ric with tears in his eyes and Shawn losing twice in a row.

Cena, making sure the camera angle was just right and squared up for the main camera, going out with a smile and a lazy tap on the arm was just overproduced and lazy.
