foods that wouldn't spoil

from the stuff I've read, some food actually did spoil. They just ate rotten jerky and moldy scones anyway.

Actually that's exactly how it used to be. It was Heinz ketchup that pushed for some government enforcement of quality control in foods. It was done to help drive out competition though. Before ketchup there was some Chinese pickled sauce or something. It was used essentially to cover up the taste of rancid meats. You had no idea what you were getting from a butcher in the market and you had no way to refrigerate it, so most foods were spoiled by the time they were ate. People used that Chinese sauce because it was the only thing available really, but it was all that great. Thus, the invention of ketchup came about.

There’s a nutrition store in Ridgeland, MS that has a McDonald’s burger and fry on an open shelf that’s been sitting there for 17 years and it hasn’t decomposed at all.

They prefer the local chain Hamborgarabullan.

Iceland is a very odd place there used to be no TV on Thursdays and an entire month in the summer.

The first time I went in the late 80s you couldn't buy beer there.

What’s amazing is that it can sit there for 10 years and not even change colors, but my stomach can turn it into diarrhea in less than an hour.

What’s the big deal about food not decomposing? As long as it breaks down in your digestive system, which it most certainly does.

Man that's nothing. People hundreds of years ago would cross the Atlantic ocean on sail boats and bring salted foods that wouldn't spoil even in the humid environment of an ocean crossing. Crazy stuff.
