My great grandfather was born near Harper’s Ferry in early 1859. When he was 4 years old, he went to sleep one night in his house in the State of Virginia, CSA and awoke the next morning in the same house that was then in the State of West Virginia, USA.

He was the strongest father figure for my dad. So the father who raised me was mostly molded by him.

A little nugget. Young women would marry CW vets to get their pension which transfered to the spouse. As a result, you have 75-80 year old vets pumping out kids.

Didn’t the girls know that just because you were married, didn’t mean you HAD to… you know

The father was born in 1844 and died in 1933. So his dad was about 80 when he was born.

This is just a reminder of how little removed from those historical events we really are.

We are reminded daily.

Subtle I’m rich reference.

Maybe not. My wife’s uncle(very not rich) was banging some broad who was way younger. We went to an anniversary party and I asked him where he met her….said she was waiting tables at Waffle House.
