The interface to send out a missile alert in Hawaii is hilariously bad

The Honolulu Civil Beat noted in a story on Sunday that the employee who made the choice from the nearly unintelligible list has been temporarily reassigned within the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA), and his status at the agency will be decided after a review. The news outlet wrote that according to Emergency Management Agency Administrator Vern Miyagi, the employee "felt terrible about the mistake."

I think it would be a damn shame if someone lost their job over this; the employee is a scapegoat, the real negligent party is whoever designed this arse-backwards UI.

I still can’t believe that the explanation was that a wrong button was pushed. One would think that there would be more than one layer of things to go through to send out a warning like that so that this kind of incident doesn’t happen.
