I've never understood the insanity defense. Being crazy, IMO, makes it worse.

This statement, in the context of this thread, is absolutely fricking ridiculous...

I don’t think so. I didn’t excuse what he did.

Calling him a monster and wanting cruel and unusual punishment for him seems off to me.

Do y’all really think this was premeditated? I think he snapped when the baby wouldn’t stop crying.

Not premeditated and definitely snapped and murdered a baby for crying.

I think he should be shot in the face.

I doubt he’s convicted of murder. Voluntary manslaughter is more likely.

He punched his own 6 week old baby to death. Eliminate this piece of shite. Especially if he’s insane.

he entered the home to find Dearmas staring at Karter, who had blood coming from his nose and was turning blue with an inverted stomach. Dearmas had not called the police. Johnson called 911 around 1 a.m., and emergency responders arrived at the house, but Johnson said Dearmas refused to surrender the child for medical attention, saying he would drive Karter to the hospital himself. St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office Deputy Scott Dawson said that Johnson and Dearmas fought while the child was lying in a car seat
This shows that that animal knew that what he did was wrong.

He isn’t insane. He is clearly just a subhuman piece of shite.

I agree in most cases.

In theory, most people who murder people are crazy or temporarily crazy. That isn't a defense.

The only time, IMO, that it works is when they are batshit looney tunes schizo and literally don't know what planet they're on. Those people need a mental facility.

Ted Bundy, Jeff Dahmer, and Charles Manson were all "insane". That doesn't excuse their actions.

Millions of parents out there who don’t punch their children when they cry.

This “thing” is a monster.

f you have never been alone with an infant that won’t stop crying, you don’t know what it’s like and you don’t know that you wouldn’t feel the urge to make it stop however you could.

This makes you sound somewhat unstable.

It’s irresponsible in the extreme to leave a mentally unstable man with a crying infant.
How do you know he's mentally unstable?

If anyone read the first article, you knew the dad beat his kid to death because of the skull fractures. That shite didn't happen because he punched him once and he fell off the couch.

I seriously doubt that. Did he have specific intent to inflict great bodily harm on the baby? Yes. If so, he is guilty of second degree murder and will serve life at angola without the possibility of parole

Also, second degree murder includes the killing of a person while engaged in "cruelty to juveniles, second degree cruelty to juveniles, or terrorism, even though he has no intent to kill or to inflict great bodily harm."
