but why does DOTD shut off the cameras when the roadway is closed?

The wiring and control boxes for those cameras are at ground level. The enclosures that everything is housed in probably took on water

During times like these this statement could have two meanings!

Checked on a couple places on the way home.

Essen and Burbank still dry but the neighborhoods on both sides are still flooded, doesn't look like the water has moved much at all.

Bayou Fountain behind Summerwood subdivision is up maybe an 1" from this morning but that's not all that suprising after the rain. Water still flowing down stream.

Water at Burbank and Bluebonnet in front of Wendy's is down headed to Highland. Water covered both lanes this morning now just one lane is covered. Bluebonnet headed towards Burbank I couldn't tell because of traffic.

Burbank soccer fields looked higher than yesterday at 1pm at the houses on the right side of the fields.

Correction it's actually down about a foot at the soccer fields. Double checked the video I took yesterday compared to on the way home. You can see more of the gates at the entrance today.

Atmosphere Aerial just posted a facebook live video of Highway 429 and Highway 22 in St. Amant. Footage from 4:30 today and the flooding is pretty significant. From the drone the water is everywhere as far as you can see.

Not that it necessarily pertains to this thread, but I heard on the radio a few minutes ago that there was a wreck on the eastbound Bonnet Carre and traffic is backed up 4 miles already. I just thought it might be helpful for anyone trying to get to Nola.

I'm sure I'll get to meet you as I'll be spending lots of time at my parents' home in the coming months.

Did you get to evacuate somewhere close by? I don't remember if we discussed this yesterday.

Yes. I am close, waiting as patiently as possible. I am pretty sure I know which house is your parents based on our conversations earlier. Did they have flood insurance?
