Neither have I. I think they are tired of what has become of BR and this is their last ditch effort to stay where they are instead moving to LP or AP.

Hey man, cheers to you and all the serious work you've put in on this issue. Just trying to chip in.

quote:

Just a factoid about EBR and BR: We are the only parish and city in Louisiana with an AAA bond credit rating. That is an incredible standard to meet and continue and it tends to contradict anyone who claims EBR/BR is crap or in decline.

Yea, I certainly understand the frustration with the school system, but I really think the majority of the blame goes on the deseg order. And while I do think there has been a lot of dysfunctional leadership throughout the years, it's not like other cities in the south and throughout the country haven't had similar issues with their public school systems. It's just the unfortunate legacy of desegregation and the effect it had on growth patterns.

But the incorporation supporters keep implying or or directly stating that city is in decline or dysfunctional and I just don't see that at all in recent years.

SG isn't trying to incorporate b/c EBR has a bad credit rating, or a AAA credit rating. Noone cares.

They want to incorporate b/c EBRPS sucks. The average non-select high school SPS ranking is a 73.3 D rating.

Here are the 2011 ratings:
Woodlawn, D, 89.9
McKinley, D, 88.5
Broadmoor, D, 74.7
Glen Oaks, D, 71.8
Northeast, D, 70.7
Tara, D+, 68.5
Belaire, D, 66.6
Istrouma, F, 55.6

Now by comparison,
Ascension:
Dutchtown, A+, 135.4
St Amant, A+, 130.0

Livingston:
Live Oak, B+, 119.4
Holden, B, 118.5
Denham, B-, 114.1

Others:
Zachary, A+, 128.9
Brusly, B, 110.2

You have a completely inept public school system. It's pretty easy to see why parents would be concerned about their kids' education in EBR.

Exactly. It's plain for most to see.

CATS
The BRPD chief of police/mayor/union debacle
The St George fire chief episode last week
The ongoing feud between EBR sherif and city police, how much money did we lose because one would not sign off for the other?
The School system (yea blame it on the deseg decree 40 years ago)
Traffic - can not even get a serious conversation about a loop because leaders can not get along
Crime

ETA: the EBR school board president debacle , any one who sits through a school board meeting can plainly see that the issues go all the way to the top

But hey, let's celebrate that AAA credit rating.

Enough of Holden and the clowns that run BR. St George will be the last ditch effort to save south br. It would be nice to have young couples move back to the SG city from LP and Ascension and to have great schools once again. I support SG 100%

Not to mention the do-gooders and high salary payroll cronies at downtown, CEPEX, The Chamber, Commercial Properties, The Redevelopment Authority, etc.

What about a suburban development authority?
What about incentives for the outlying areas?

Why all the beautification of downtown? Why not beautify other areas too?

What's going on is not working. We need to change.

You make good points, but I don't think most people know or care about any of that.... if they would just give SG an ISD, there would be no support to incorporate.

It's a pretty big slap in the face to see Dutchtown, St Amant, & Zachary get good public education just miles away... but the AAA credit rating BR people can't seem to manage a C rated High school.

And you criticize politicians for lying?

Woodlawn HS is a C, not a D rated high school.

McKinley is a C, not a D.

And you noticeably omitted BRMHS which is an A rated school and is nationally recognized for its academic achievements, with a score of 132.9, which is higher than Zachary.

You also left out Parkview Elementary in the SG area which is an A school. And Parkview is a true "neighborhood" school, not a magnet school.

The same for Shenadoah Elementary, an A rated neighborhood school.

Why do you tell outright lies that can be so easily fact checked and expect anyone to believe anything you post? You've lost all credibility.

They've had some piss-poor leadership, but that new CEO seems to be doing a decent job of trying to clean up the mess. Choosing to privatize management of the operations to a specialized firm was a good decision. I believe the city needs viable public transportation.

Yea, that didn't look great. However, the murder rate in EBR dropped 20% last year, which is no statistical blip. And they are expanding the BRAVE program to 70802.

Stupid, but trivial.

You tell me.

Traffic has to do with poor planning decades ago. Kip had done more to address the issue than any other mayor. The loop isn't a silver bullet for traffic and the resistance is coming from neighboring parishes.

Tell your dad happy birthday for me and also his son is an idiot.

Dad had a great time and appreciates your well wishes!

I told him his son is an idiot. We talked and he had a little something to add...

I was wrong about the population in the current school system. I saw somewhere that is was roughly the same, but it evidently isn't. I freely admit that. But to my point. Why are there like 17 high schools in BR, but only one in the unincorporated are? That leads to the budget surplus argument. If there were 2/3 of population in BR and 1/3 in proposed St George, the number of high schools is still disgraceful! This leads to the surplus I quoted in the proposed school district budget of around $30 million... Argue that my friend.

Also how do you get property taxes going up $2K to $3K per year? You swore that you had posted citations in numerous poli board threads to back up your assertion. I go to have some cake and your weak arse talks about the St George budget and how it cqan't possibly be true. Giant frickING failure on your part. Is it because you looked at the proposed St George budget and speculated? You bet your Russian arse you did...

The problem with your speculation is
A) you've admitted you don't understand a budget. You've been given a link and page numbers to the EBRP budget and because you don't know what it means, then nobody else could possibly understand. Old dad says his idiot son shouldn't listen to anyone making claims about budget numbers, who freely admits he doesn't know how to read a budget, from his own written word.

B) You talk about per capita costs with out thinking about economies of scale and how population density affects the cost of governance. These are factors considered by this idiot, but not by you.

Pop shot a 79 from the blues Friday... The old dog is still kicking it pretty well. He had a great birthday.

He also scanned the last 3 or 4 pages of this thread and was happy with how his idiot boy took a russian to school point by point, post by post.

Call me all the names you want bro...

I don't think that is true. But LT admitted his motivations are race based a few posts ago. At least he admits it. I admire him for being honest about it.

Mother fricker what?!?!

I never said any such thing! I said I feel for the kids who don't receive discipline and have parents that value decent behavior. I said the little ones are innocent if being raised by assholes!

I said the problem is, the little ones with no home training create such a shitty environment that the other kids can't learn... teachers can't teach...

I also said when it comes to my kids or someone else's I am going to do what is best for mine every time... And not feel bad about it... I said I wish I could force people to just simply be decent but I can't...

Where do you get racism from that?!?!? that was all paraphrased...

Here is the exact quote form page 11 of this thread:
quote:

Ding, Ding, Ding.... We have the race card.

Bro this is where you need to focus. The poor kids being raised by people who aren't focused on what's best for their little ones. Before you call me names for that statement, understand that I am close with several br teachers. There is no discipline or home training in a significant percentage of the students. The apathy of the parents of the bad apples stops the others from being taught due to distractions.

I firmly believe thatkids to a point are innocent. The problem is I can only raise my two babies. I can't force other parents to be basically decent people.

When it comes to mine I will fight for them and their future. I won't be shamed because I want what's best for my little ones.

Most desirable cities have a vibrant, attractive downtown area.
It's pretty important to young professionals, which the cities sorely needs.

Are you the lesbian artist from the fark board, that lives in Dallas? If so, I love your art and think you are incredibly talented.

To your inconvenient facts... He didn't point out anything... Just rampant speculation. HE freely admitted he didn't know how to decipher the EBRO budget; even when given the page number he needed to look at.

Quick Question... Should the people of Plano be forced to pay for the Dallas fire and police? OR vice versa? OF course not! EBRP is the only place, in the country that has this idiotic system that allows taxes to be taken from one area and made unavailable to the people of that area...

Before a loop gets done (never will now IMO) they need to close the Washington street exit and buy up the homes on west side of 10 bw bridge and 10/12 split...and add another lane
