You keep saying the leaders of the SG movement are not being honest...do you think the leaders against it are being honest?

Still waiting on any substance from you on the issues you've been challenged.....
And if you aren't aware of any, it just shows how little you are paying attention.
Anyone that can understand the English language would not have ignored them.

This is why we can't have nice things.

Probably not. My first inclination is to not trust any politician. Experience has taught me to think that way.
But, what specifically are you referring to that they are not being honest about? I"ll opine when you specify that.

Oh... and I found this little gem.... so everyone will know your motivation behind your anti-SG position.

No matter who claims what about the reasons for splitting off, it all comes back to some white parents don't want their little darlings sitting in a classroom that has more than two or three black kids in the classroom.

The ordeal earlier this week when they tried to remove fire chiefs and replace them with opponents of SG while saying it had nothing to do with the SG issue...does anyone believe that? How can anyone support that type of behavior?
ETA: it was rhetorical but I answered one of your questions. Also giving partial truths that only support their agenda is dishonest...for ex. The numbers about the green light project. Sure it fits the agenda but what about all the tax dollars being spent in the city not generated by the city? Pick one issue and show one instance that supports your stance while ignoring all the ones that don't....typical political rhetoric.

I don't care if I change your mind, b/c you've already identified yourself as a racist. And, you've already said,

That was a total crock of crap when they claimed it had nothing to do with SG. Of course it did. And they were stupid to even consider doing it. I'm glad Loupe and the rest of the council killed it.
But it wasn't replacing the fire chiefs. It was an attempt to replace the members whose terms are expiring who sit on the SG fire district's advisory board.

The point is they blatantly lied IMO and anyone who believes otherwise is a dumbass.
What do you think can be done to save BR?
Whether or not SG passes it will only delay or accelerate the demise of BR.

This is where I have a problem. i have spent hours trying to determine where the tax dollars come from and isolating where those specific dollars go to. I even read the entire 500+ page EBR/BR 2014 budget.
It is especially difficult when analyzing sales taxes.
I hope to corner someone soon who works in the EBR finance/budget department to get them to explain that to me.
If anyone here knows how to track specific sources of taxes collected all the way to where they get spent, I'd love to learn from them.

Of couse they lied. It won't be the last time politicians on both sides will lie.
It amazes me how so many posters on this board and the Poli Board take what the SG organizers say and accept it at face value without questioning it. Especially when it comes to the financial aspects of the new city.

The City of Baton Rouge, because of its policies, is in decline.
Which policies? Be specific.
And what makes you say it is in decline? I've seen a lot of improvement over the last decade. And the last year in particular has yielded great news in terms of economic development and revitalization of downtown.
quote:
Many people in St. George don't care about downtown, CEPEX, The Chamber, Commercial Properties, The Redevelopment Authority, etc.
I know, and it's incredibly short-sighted IMO. I live in St. George and recognize the value in the work these groups do.
quote:
They just want a good local school, good fire and police protection, and local government that understands their concerns.
Well, IMO the school system was fricked by the deseg order from a federal judge, which only ended a few years ago. Do you think we have inadequate police and fire protection in St. George?

I just hope there are more like you in SG. At least enough to make up 50%+1 vote.
Just a factoid about EBR and BR: We are the only parish and city in Louisiana with an AAA bond credit rating. That is an incredible standard to meet and continue and it tends to contradict anyone who claims EBR/BR is crap or in decline.

I live in BR and have my entire life but I can't find one good reason to tell the SG proponents to stay as it is now. I can't argue with anyone wanting more bang for their buck.
Posted on 1/11/14 at 7:54 pm to Topwater Trout
The question is, can they really get it? I don't understand this completely though. Why take a whole third of the parish? It's not like Zachary or Central went that route. It can't be in that entire region's interest to be one city. Besides schools, what could the other advantages be?
These questions may have already been addressed. I'm pretty ignorant on this subject; I haven't been paying much attention to it.
